You Won't Believe What Happens When 20 Years of NWTC's Startup Hub Meets Bold Entrepreneurs!

GREEN BAY — For two decades, the Startup Hub at the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) campus has been a vital resource for local entrepreneurs, helping them navigate the challenging path of business development. Recently, the Greater Green Bay Chamber hosted an event to celebrate the Hub's impressive 20-year milestone.

"I'd say it's been very successful," remarked Shane Kanneberg, the director of entrepreneurship and startups for the Chamber, reflecting on the Hub's impact over the years.

Originally launched in December 2005 as the Business Assistance Center, the Startup Hub was created through a partnership between the Chamber and NWTC. More than 50 businesses from diverse industries have operated out of the Hub since its inception, benefiting from support and resources tailored to help entrepreneurs transition into successful, independently operating ventures within the community.

According to Kanneberg, the Hub has seen a significant uptick in interest, with over 150 inquiries annually—a number that continues to grow. "In our entrepreneurial ecosystem, we have over 150 inquiries a year, and that number is growing," he shared, highlighting the growing entrepreneurial spirit in the area.

The Hub's facilities boast an expansive 50,000 square feet, housing professional office suites, manufacturing bays, a podcast studio, and virtual meeting spaces. Such amenities are crucial for fostering a collaborative environment where entrepreneurs can thrive.

Statistics support the effectiveness of incubator programs like the Startup Hub. Businesses that launch in such settings have a remarkable 90% chance of surviving for more than five years, as opposed to only 50% without incubator support. This significant difference underscores the critical role that resources and community connections play in entrepreneurial success.

"We would love to continue to grow our network of founders and resource providers, really strengthening our entrepreneurial ecosystem in Northeast Wisconsin," Kanneberg expressed. Looking ahead, he envisions more programming in 2026, aiming to further bolster local businesses.

In a notable initiative, the Greater Green Bay Chamber has committed to offering a complimentary annual Chamber membership to Startup Hub tenants for their first five years in the space. This move is designed to help entrepreneurs expand their networks and become more integrated into the Greater Green Bay business community.

The Startup Hub's anniversary celebration not only highlights its past achievements but also serves as a reminder of the importance of nurturing local entrepreneurship. As interest in the Hub continues to grow, it stands as a testament to the thriving entrepreneurial spirit in the region, offering invaluable support to those looking to turn their ideas into successful businesses.
