You Won't Believe How Villanova Dominated Creighton—Their Fifth Straight Win Could Change Everything!

In a decisive victory, the Villanova Wildcats showcased their strength on the road against the Creighton Bluejays, claiming an 80-69 win in Omaha, Nebraska. The win marks a significant milestone for Villanova, as it secures their 20th victory of the season, improving their record to 20-5 overall and 11-3 in the Big East Conference. This performance also signals a notable turnaround, as it avenged a previous loss to Creighton earlier this January.

Leading the charge for the Wildcats was senior forward Duke Brennan, who delivered an impressive double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. This performance marked his 11th double-double of the season, placing him second all-time in Villanova's history, trailing only Michael Bradley’s record of 14 set during the 2000-01 season. Head coach Kevin Willard praised Brennan's maturity and effectiveness on the court, stating, “You can’t talk enough about Duke. I mean, [he’s] just taking his time, having some big finishes and again the guards [are] finding him.”

Villanova's recent success can also be attributed to the consistency of Tyler Perkins, who contributed 17 points and 11 rebounds, marking his second double-double of the season. Perkins has been on fire, averaging 17.9 points per game over his last nine outings. His performance continues to bolster a Villanova squad that is now on a five-game winning streak, achieving 20 wins in just 25 games for the first time since the 2018-19 season.

Defensively, Villanova's strategy was effective right from the start, smothering Creighton's offense. The Wildcats held the Bluejays to just 10 points in the first 13 minutes of the game, with Creighton's starting lineup accounting for only five of those points. As the first half progressed, Villanova established a commanding 25-10 lead, forcing Creighton into a challenging position, shooting just 4-for-18 from the field at that juncture. Willard noted, “I think we started off really good and were just really solid,” as his team capitalized on Creighton's eight turnovers, scoring 12 points off those mistakes.

While Villanova’s defense set the tone, their offense was no less formidable, particularly in the paint. The Wildcats scored an impressive 48 points inside the key, with 30 of those coming in the first half. Although their three-point shooting was less than stellar, finishing the game at 6-for-21, their focus on interior scoring proved decisive.

The bench also made significant contributions, with Villanova’s reserves racking up 25 points. Notably, Devin Askew scored 13 points, while Malachi Palmer added 10 points, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 2-for-2 from three-point range. Askew has had a strong season coming off the bench, averaging 9.8 points, with five double-digit games in conference play. Palmer, who has recently earned more playing time, has also been finding his rhythm, scoring in double digits in three of the last four games, including a career-high 15 points against Seton Hall on February 4.

Looking ahead, Villanova will continue its road journey with a matchup against Xavier (13-12, 5-9) on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. on FS1. The Wildcats lead the all-time series against the Musketeers, 35-9, and will aim to extend their winning streak as they push toward the postseason.
