The Fratellis' Stunning 20th Anniversary Tour Postponed—You Won't Believe What They Revealed!

A Scottish indie rock band, The Fratellis, has announced the postponement of its upcoming tour dates, which were meant to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Costello Music. The band, known for hits like "Chelsea Dagger" and "Henrietta", had scheduled more than a dozen concerts across the UK for February and March, many of which were already sold out. The sudden decision was attributed to “illness in the band,” as stated in their official announcement.
No new show dates have been confirmed yet, but the band’s promoters assured fans that tickets purchased for the original dates will remain valid for the rescheduled performances. Details regarding potential refunds have not yet been made available.
In a heartfelt statement, lead singer-guitarist Jon Fratelli, whose real name is John Lawler, revealed that he is currently “unable to perform due to ongoing health issues.” The band expressed their disappointment, saying, “With the tour so close it breaks our musical hearts to take this decision, but in light of medical advice that Jon takes time to recover, it’s the only sensible option.”
The Fratellis shared that they had previously faced “a far more serious medical obstacle that should have ended our dream there & then” shortly after forming in late 2004, though they did not elaborate on the health issues they experienced then or are facing now. Their commitment to return to the stage remains strong, as they stated, “With a wee bit of time we’ll do now what we did then... whatever it takes to get back onstage as quickly as possible, playing music for anyone who loves our thing as much as we do.”
Despite the postponement of the early tour, The Fratellis are still set to perform at various summer festival shows in England, Scotland, and Wales. Their next scheduled performance is tentatively set for May 2 at the MacMoray Easter Festival in Elgin, Moray.
Formed in Glasgow, The Fratellis gained considerable fame with their 2006 album, Costello Music, which reached No. 2 in the UK charts and No. 48 in the U.S. They toured North America with The Police, won the award for Best British Breakthrough Act at the 2007 BRIT Awards, and have had their music featured in numerous popular films and television shows, including Pitch Perfect, One Tree Hill, Hot Fuzz, Community, Gossip Girl, She’s Out Of My League, 90210, and Chuck.
Many of their songs, including "Henrietta," "Chelsea Dagger," "Flathead," "Whistle for the Choir," and 2013’s "She’s Not Gone Yet But She’s Leaving,” continue to resonate with fans today. The band boasts over 800 million combined streams on Spotify. They released their sixth album in 2021, continuing to keep their distinct sound in the modern music landscape.
As fans await updates on the rescheduled tour dates, many are left reminiscing about the impact of The Fratellis on the indie rock scene and looking forward to their eventual return to the stage.
