Zach Shuk's Shocking Promotion: What This Means for the Team's Future and Fans!

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – In an exciting development for the Eastern Michigan University women's soccer program, Zach Shuk has been promoted to Assistant Coach, a decision announced by Head Coach Taylor Clarke on March 9, 2025. This promotion marks a significant step in Shuk’s career and reflects his dedication to the program and its athletes.
Shuk expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating,
"I'm so excited for this opportunity and it is an honor to further my role within the Eastern Michigan program. I can't speak highly enough of the people within the school and organization. Go Eagles!"
Having joined the Eagles in 2024, Shuk has spent the previous two seasons as the goalkeeping coach, during which time he played a crucial role in developing the team’s defensive capabilities. His commitment and passion have been pivotal to the program’s success, as highlighted by Coach Clarke:
"Zach's commitment and dedication to our student-athletes and this program has been so important to our success over the last two years. He brings energy and passion to our environment every day. We are very grateful for Zach and excited about this opportunity for him."
One of Shuk's most notable achievements came through his mentorship of goalkeeper Ella Holland, who emerged as a standout in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). In 2025, Holland led the MAC with impressive statistics, including 105 saves, a save percentage of .847, and an average of 5.83 saves per game. Her exceptional performance earned her a spot on the All-MAC second team and recognition as MAC goalkeeper of the year on two occasions: September 23 and October 21.
Under Shuk's guidance, the Eagles achieved five shutouts during the season. This included back-to-back shutouts against Buffalo and Toledo on September 18 and September 21, respectively. Furthermore, Holland delivered one of the finest performances in MAC history, recording 20 saves against Kent State on October 2, 2025, showcasing the strong foundation Shuk helped establish.
In addition to his work at Eastern Michigan, Shuk also served as an Assistant Goalkeeping Coach at Madonna University during the 2024 season. There, he contributed to the Crusaders achieving a remarkable 14-3-4 record and securing a spot in the NAIA National Tournament.
Before transitioning into coaching, Shuk was a successful goalkeeper for Madonna University, where he played for five seasons. His accolades include being named to the Champions of Character Team in 2021 and earning WHAC All-Academic honors in 2022. He graduated in December 2023 with a degree in Graphic Design and a minor in Marketing.
Shuk's promotion comes at a time when the Eastern Michigan soccer program is looking to build on its recent successes. The Eagles are poised for growth, and Shuk's role will be integral in developing both current players and future talent.
