You Won't Believe What Shocking Discoveries Await on the Arcata Marsh Tours This Weekend! Don't Miss Out!

The Redwood Region Audubon Society invites nature enthusiasts to explore the rich biodiversity of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary this Saturday, October 28, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The guided field trip, led by Kathryn Wendel, is free of charge, encouraging participants to bring binoculars as they take in spectacular views of Humboldt Bay and the diverse birdlife that inhabits the area. This is a unique opportunity to connect with nature and learn more about the local ecosystem.

For those interested in plants, another guided experience will take place later the same day. Friends of the Arcata Marsh will host a tour at the sanctuary, focusing on the flora of the area. Meeting at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center on South G Street, participants will join leader Barbara Reisman for a 90-minute walk. Attendees should note that the event will proceed rain or shine, showcasing the resilience of the natural environment. For additional information, participants can call 707-826-2359.

Food lovers can also partake in a delicious breakfast hosted by Humboldt Grange No. 501 this Saturday, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the grange hall located at 5845 Humboldt Hill Road, south of Eureka. The hearty menu features scrambled eggs, pancakes or biscuits and gravy, sausage, and a variety of beverages including coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. A $10 donation is requested from adults, while seniors and youth aged 5 to 12 can enjoy the meal for $7. Children under 5 eat for free. This breakfast is held on the fourth Saturday of every month from January through October, providing a chance for community bonding over good food. Those interested in volunteering can call 707-442-4890 for more information.

For those who want to lend a hand to the environment, the Redwood Region Audubon Society is organizing a volunteer workday at Wigi Wetlands on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. Volunteers can help create bird-friendly native habitats and restore a section of the bay trail by removing invasive plants and trash. The meeting point is in the parking lot behind Walmart, located directly behind the Bayshore Mall. Tools, gloves, and homemade cookies will be provided. Anyone interested can reach out to Eric Nelson via email at [email protected] for more details.

In addition to these events, the community can unwind with a lively dance party hosted every Monday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge on 4328 Campton Road in Eureka. With live music and a spacious dance floor, attendees can enjoy an affordable night out for just $9.

If bingo is more your style, the Moose Lodge also offers bingo nights every Tuesday, welcoming the public. The doors open at 5 p.m., with early bird games starting at 6 p.m. and regular games commencing at 6:30 p.m. The snack bar is open during the event, and all proceeds from the games are reinvested back into the community, making it a fun way to support local initiatives while enjoying a classic game.

These events not only highlight the vibrant community spirit in and around Arcata but also emphasize the importance of environmental stewardship, local cuisine, and social gatherings. Whether you're a nature lover, a foodie, or just looking for a good time, this Saturday has something to offer everyone.
