Hello! My Name is Blotto: The Movie gained considerable attention during its debut at the inaugural LIMEHOF Music Documentary Film Festival in August 2025, where it sold out its film block. The documentary chronicles the journey of the upstate New York-based rock band Blotto, tracing their evolution from their roots in the 1970s through their surge in popularity during the 1980s, particularly with the advent of MTV. The film celebrates their unexpected hit, “I Wanna Be a Lifeguard,” which propelled them from local club gigs to national fame.
In recognition of his work, Lichter received the inaugural Spirit of Independent Filmmaking Award at the same festival, underscoring the documentary's significance in the local music and film landscape.
Lichter's inspiration for the film stemmed from a collection of videos and photographs he had amassed over 25 years. Initially envisioning an online archive, he pivoted to creating a full-fledged documentary after receiving encouragement from the band's members following an early screening. This shift not only celebrates the band's history but also connects Long Island's rich musical heritage to a wider audience, making it a poignant reminder of the enduring impact of local artists.
