You Won't Believe What Rachel Dratch Transformed in Her NYC Apartment—The Shocking Reveals Inside!

Rachel Dratch, the beloved alum of Saturday Night Live, is experiencing a new chapter in her life as she transitions her New York City apartment to accommodate her son, Eli Benjamin, who is now 15 and entering his teenage years. Dratch, who first moved into her "white brick" apartment building 23 years ago during her time on the iconic sketch comedy show, has always viewed her home as a sanctuary from the bustling city life.
In a recent interview with Realtor.com, Dratch shared that she upgraded to a two-bedroom unit within the same building about eight years ago. This space has become a joyful refuge for her family, offering a sense of calm amidst the sensory overload of New York City. "Living in New York is very, like, sensory overload," she noted, adding, "I guess everyone has their own little cave that they crawl into at the end of the day."
Dratch describes her home as "pretty small" and "ordinary," with a charm that includes the occasional pile of papers that need organizing. Yet, her apartment is filled with laughter—a hallmark of her household, especially as she navigates the joys of motherhood. "I have a teenage son, so he's a lot of fun. He's not like the stereotypical teen slamming doors and stuff like that. We have a lot of laughs. That's what I associate my home with," she explained, while also humorously mentioning her attempts at cooking dinner.
Recent renovations in her apartment include new kitchen floors, which had seen better days thanks to her dog, Ruffles, and updated light fixtures. However, the most notable change has been the reconfiguration of rooms. Eli outgrew his childhood bedroom, prompting Dratch to move him into what was previously the playroom. "My son's room, it was for a little kid. It was really cute, but now I moved him into what was the playroom, and so now I’m trying to navigate the upgrade from, like, kid room to teen room," she shared.
While Dratch is busy managing her household, she is also juggling a flourishing career in show business. Alongside her podcast, Woo Woo with Rachel Dratch, she is making a return to Broadway in the revival of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Amid these commitments, she remains hands-on when it comes to home chores. "Stars, they're just, like us! Yeah, I do my laundry. I do my grocery shopping, all that stuff. I don't have people. I don't have staff," she quipped, emphasizing her DIY approach to household maintenance.
Though Dratch's home is currently functioning well, she acknowledges the value of knowing whom to call for repairs. As a partner of home warranty company American Home Shield, she appreciates their services. "If any appliances that you have need repair, then American Home Shield will step in," she said, noting their video chat component that facilitates troubleshooting issues remotely. "It's very easy," she added, reflecting on the peace of mind that comes with having assistance for aging appliances.
As she embraces the changes in her living situation, Dratch also cherishes the sense of community in her Manhattan apartment building. She often invites her former SNL castmate, Ana Gasteyer, over to her home. "She and I hang out a lot, and we write together," Dratch said, adding that she enjoys the warmth of familiar faces in her building, where residents know each other and their pets. "Living in an apartment, you kinda know your neighbors. You know all the dogs in the building and the characters—there's some cranky characters and some not-so-cranky characters," she joked.
As Dratch navigates motherhood and her career, she contemplates the future of her living arrangements. While she loves her neighborhood and the energy of city life, she can't say for certain whether her current apartment will be her forever home. "I love my neighborhood, so possibly, yeah, maybe, it might be [my forever home]—unless I try to upgrade somehow. I like living in the city," she concluded, leaving the door open for the next chapter in her life.
