You Won’t Believe What Happened in Gulf Shores: Kayleigh Jacks Leads a Shocking Upset Against Spanish Fort!

The spring sports season is bustling along the Gulf Coast, bringing exciting performances and notable achievements in local athletics. This week’s Baldwin County Buzz shines a spotlight on standout athletes and teams making waves in their respective sports.
KAYLEIGH JACKS, GULF SHORES SOFTBALL
Among the highlights, Gulf Shores softball's Kayleigh Jacks has been a powerhouse at the plate. Last week, Jacks went 16-for-21, showcasing her prowess with two home runs, 13 RBIs, four doubles, and three triples. Notably, she achieved the rare honor of hitting for the cycle during a commanding 17-3 victory over Summertown in the first Gulf Coast Classic of the season.
Her impressive performance was capped with a perfect 4-for-4 game in that outing, contributing significantly to Gulf Shores’ strong finish of six wins and two losses (4-2 in the Classic). Continuing her streak, Jacks went 2-for-3 on Monday, adding another home run and two RBIs to her growing tally. All four of her home runs this season have come in the last couple of weeks, underscoring her rising dominance in the Dolphins' lineup.
After an action-packed few weeks filled with tournament play, Jacks and her team will take a brief pause, with only three games scheduled over the next two weeks, all against area rivals. This break provides an opportunity for rest and practice, priming them for the challenges ahead.
SPANISH FORT GIRLS SOCCER
On the soccer field, the Spanish Fort girls soccer team has been impressive, maintaining a robust record of 12 wins, two losses, and two draws. They have been particularly dominant lately, winning eight of their last nine matches and outscoring their opponents an extraordinary 17-1 just last week. Their performance has earned them a rise to No. 5 in the AHSAA Class 6A coaches' poll.
Ranked 17th in the state and 93rd nationally by MaxPreps, Spanish Fort participated in the Island Cup last week, finishing with a 2-1 record. Their sole defeat came at the hands of another top-25 ranked team, Athens. Remarkably, the Lady Toros have not suffered a loss since February 10 and have only lost by a total of two goals in their two defeats this season.
As the regular season winds down with less than a month remaining, Spanish Fort aims to finish strong and capture their first Blue Map trophy since 2011, when they were champions in Class 5A. The Lady Toros narrowly missed a title shot in 2025, losing in the semi-finals to the eventual champion, Briarwood Christian.
These weekly honors highlight the outstanding performances of local athletes based on their statistics and game contributions.
