In a thrilling display of skill and teamwork, the No. 12 Virginia Tech Hokies softball team showcased their dominance on Friday, sweeping a doubleheader against Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. With these wins, the Hokies improved their overall record to 30-4 and solidified their standing in the ACC with a conference record of 6-2. Their current eight-game winning streak highlights their momentum as they prepare for the remainder of the season.

The first game was a decisive victory for Virginia Tech, ending with a score of 11-0. After a quiet first inning, the Hokies quickly found their rhythm in the second, scoring four runs. Gaby Mizelle ignited the offense with her fifth home run of the season, putting Tech on the board at 1-0. Following her, Rachel Castine hit a single that led to an additional run driven in by Addison Foster. Jordan Lynch capped off the inning with a two-run home run, extending their lead to 4-0.

While the Hokies were relatively silent for the next few innings, they exploded offensively in the fifth, bringing in seven more runs. Mizelle, Castine, Emma Mazzarone, and Foster all contributed to the surge before Lynch hit her second home run of the game, sealing the 11-0 victory. Lynch's standout performance included driving in a remarkable five runs. On the defensive end, Mazzarone shined, pitching a complete-game shutout with only two hits allowed and tying her career-high with 10 strikeouts. This victory brings her record to 8-1.

Game 2 saw the Hokies continue their offensive onslaught, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Contributions came from Nora Abromavage, Zoe Yaeger, and Mizelle, who all drove in runs. Boston College fought back, managing to score two runs in the bottom of the inning, narrowing the Hokies' lead to 3-2. However, Virginia Tech responded emphatically by adding four more runs in the second inning, bringing the score to 7-2. Abromavage hit a three-run homer, her tenth of the season, followed by a solo shot from Michelle Chatfield.

The game remained competitive, with the Eagles adding two more runs in the bottom of the third to make it 8-4. But the Hokies weren't done; Foster hit a two-run double in the fifth inning, expanding the lead to 10-4. In the sixth, Chatfield blasted another two-run homer, paving the way for Castine and Foster to drive in additional runs, ultimately leading to a final score of 14-4.

While Avery Layton started for Virginia Tech, her performance was less than stellar, allowing four runs on six hits with two walks in just two innings. Bree Carrico stepped in and dominated, pitching four innings while allowing only two hits and striking out 10, improving her record to 9-0.

As the Hokies head into the final game of the three-game series with Boston College on Sunday, they are undoubtedly riding high on confidence. With a strong offensive showing and solid pitching, the team is poised to maintain their winning streak and continue climbing the rankings in NCAA softball.
