You Won’t Believe How This Season’s Girls Soccer Team Is Shaking Things Up—Find Out Why Everyone Is Talking!

The Palo Alto High School girls’ soccer team, known as the Vikings, is gearing up for a promising 2025-2026 season following a solid performance last year. With a record of 7-7-3, the team finished third in the SCVAL De Anza league and earned the number two seed in the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs. They made an impressive first-round exit, defeating the Soledad Aztecs (17-3-1) before facing a tough loss to the Mountain View Spartans (12-8-2).

Head coach Jeremy Romero is optimistic about this year’s squad, highlighting their potential for a strong playoff run. “I believe our team will compete with the best,” Romero stated. “We have nothing but exceptional players, and I expect us to make a good run.” This confidence is mirrored by senior player Reyes Aronson, who notes that the team has made significant individual progress since last season. “Since most of us play club, most of us have gotten a lot better as individuals,” Aronson remarked. “For our newcomers, we are going to see how they do.”

In preparation for the upcoming season, the Vikings are focusing on both strategy and fitness. Aronson explained, “We have been doing a lot of fitness, which is different from last season. We have been training to do a 3-5-2 [defense] and we have been working on formation.” This shift in strategy aims to build a more cohesive unit on the field, better equipping them to face their opponents.

Coach Romero emphasizes the importance of competitive practice to foster team development. “We are really good at making practices competitive to bring the best out of one another,” he said. “We like to have hard practices and easy games rather than easy practices and hard games. Everyone loves to see the wins for games, but the real wins come from how hard you practice.” The Vikings' commitment to rigorous practice is expected to translate into on-field success.

The team’s first regular-season game is set for December 9 at 6 p.m., where they will face the Gunn Titans at Henry M. Gunn High School. As the Vikings aim for a successful playoff run, their preparation, strategy, and work ethic will be crucial in determining their performance this season. With promising talent and a drive to improve, Palo Alto’s girls’ soccer team is ready to compete at a higher level and make a significant mark in the league.
