You Won’t Believe How the Harbor Boys Soccer Team Shocked Everyone with a 12-0 Victory! What’s Next?

Sophomore forward Andres Reyes put on a dazzling performance, scoring six goals and contributing an assist, as Harbor High’s boys soccer team dominated host San Lorenzo Valley in a staggering 12-0 victory on Friday. This win secured the Pirates their second title in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League (SCCAL) in just four years, further emphasizing their dominance in local high school soccer.
This year's senior class has also had a notable run, finishing as runners-up in the SCCAL for the past two seasons. Head coach Michael Vahradian, a 2010 Harbor alumnus, expressed immense pride in his team. “It means the world,” Vahradian said. “This league title is about their decision to commit to each other and to the way that we want to play. We decided a long time ago that success for us was going to be about finding peace in our effort and letting results happen as they should. This group embodied all of that from Day 1. All credit goes to our leadership, our seniors, our entire team.”
The Pirates’ 12-goal outing marks a potential new record for goals scored in a game for the school, surpassing their previous large margin of victory of 11-0 against St. Francis on January 9, 2008. Reyes' sensational performance elevated his season total to a remarkable 31 goals, setting a new school record. His tally is the highest by any player in Santa Cruz County since Diego Padilla of Ceiba scored 37 goals during the 2018-19 season.
In addition to Reyes, freshman winger Javi Alfaro and senior forward Danny Garcia each contributed significantly with a goal and two assists, helping the Pirates improve their record to 15 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw overall, and an undefeated 8-0 in league play. The Pirates currently hold the sixth spot in the Central Coast Section rankings and are positioned 54th in the state according to maxpreps.com.
Other players who added to the scoreline included Phinn Hilton, Sai Nguyen, Josh Leon, and Max Cuevas, who also saw action at goalie alongside Calvin Schwartz and Korben Weatherly. The trio combined for four saves, maintaining the Pirates' impressive record of 11 clean sheets this season.
SLV coach Isai Baltezar acknowledged his team's challenging circumstances, noting they were without half of their roster due to injuries, illness, and other commitments. Despite the loss, he congratulated Harbor on their successful season.
Looking ahead, Harbor will face off against crosstown rival Santa Cruz (10-4-3, 5-1-2) on Wednesday at 7 p.m., while SLV is set to play at Soquel.
