You Won't Believe How Porzingis Shocked Everyone in His Warriors Debut with Only 12 Points!

SAN FRANCISCO -- In a highly anticipated return, Kristaps Porzingis made his debut with the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night, but it wasn’t the start he envisioned. The Warriors fell to the Boston Celtics, 121-110, in a game that felt out of reach for much of the night.

This marked only Porzingis' 18th appearance of the season, and his first since January 7, when he was still part of the Atlanta Hawks. Following his trade to the Warriors, the team opted to take a cautious approach with his return, limiting him to just 17 minutes off the bench. Porzingis initially struggled, missing his first two shots and finding it challenging to keep pace with the Celtics’ offensive onslaught.

During the second quarter, the Warriors were outscored 38-19, and at one point, trailed by 32 points when Porzingis re-entered the game late in the third quarter. Boston's Jaylen Brown shone brightly for the Celtics, finishing the game with impressive stats: 23 points, 15 rebounds, and 13 assists.

"Boston was incredible," Warriors coach Steve Kerr remarked after the game. "They're having an amazing season. They're a machine right now."

Despite the significant deficit, the Warriors made a valiant effort to claw back into the game, thanks in part to a surge from Porzingis. He contributed 12 points, including two long three-pointers and a couple of successful post-up moves. Notably, the Warriors outscored the Celtics by 15 points during the second half when Porzingis was on the floor, after being outscored by 19 points in the first half.

"He just looked more comfortable and settled in," Kerr added, acknowledging Porzingis' gradual improvement as he found his rhythm on the court.

Porzingis expressed enthusiasm about increasing his playing time in the upcoming games. "I would’ve liked to go longer tonight," he said. "Even if I’m exhausted out there, I still want to push myself. But I know I have to take it step by step. Add a couple minutes next game hopefully."

The Warriors are facing a challenging stretch, with their next matchup against the Denver Nuggets scheduled for Sunday at 12:30 p.m. PT. They are currently dealing with the absence of two critical players: Jimmy Butler, who has been sidelined for the season due to a torn ACL, and Stephen Curry, whose persistent right knee issue will keep him out of action for at least the next four games.

With a current record of 29-27, the Warriors are in desperate need of Porzingis to find his form quickly and provide an offensive boost. "I felt all right," Porzingis noted after the game, reflecting on his performance. "Far from being in perfect shape. But I think for first game back after a while, getting some energy back, I’m feeling good."

As the Warriors navigate this difficult phase, the return of Porzingis could prove pivotal in turning their season around, especially as they aim to regain their footing in a competitive Western Conference.
