In a move aimed at alleviating the financial burden on Michigan residents amid rising gas prices, State Representative Jerry Neyer has commended Governor Gretchen Whitmer for her recent decision to expand access to lower-cost fuel options. This action follows a letter Neyer sent earlier this week, urging the state to implement the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) emergency waiver, which allows for the sale of E15 fuel, a blend of 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline.

On March 31, Neyer, alongside 24 fellow House Republicans, reached out to Governor Whitmer, expressing the immediate need for measures that would provide relief at the pump as gas prices continue to climb. The governor responded by issuing Executive Order 2026-4, which eases fuel blend restrictions in some of Michigan's most populated counties, thus aligning the state with the EPA's emergency waiver.

“Michigan families and businesses needed relief, and I’m glad to see action taken to expand access to lower-cost fuel options,” stated Neyer, a Republican from Shepherd. “This is exactly the kind of step that helps people keep more money in their pockets.” The executive order is expected to allow gasoline options that are typically 10 to 20 cents cheaper per gallon, making a significant difference for drivers feeling the strain of elevated fuel costs.
