US Women’s Soccer Faces a Shocking Challenge: Can They Survive Colombia, Argentina, and Canada in the SheBelieves Cup?

The U.S. women's national soccer team is set to host Canada, Argentina, and Colombia in the upcoming SheBelieves Cup, a prestigious annual tournament scheduled for March. This round-robin competition will take place over three days, featuring double-headers in three cities: Nashville, Tennessee; Columbus, Ohio; and Harrison, New Jersey. The U.S. finale at Sports Illustrated Stadium will include a special ceremony honoring New Jersey native Tobin Heath, a two-time Women's World Cup champion who announced her retirement from soccer last year.

Currently ranked No. 2 in the world, the U.S. team faces stiff competition from Canada, ranked No. 10, Colombia at No. 20, and Argentina at No. 30. This tournament serves as a vital stepping stone for each nation as they prepare for the 2027 World Cup qualifiers and beyond.

“These are three teams that will likely be in the World Cup in 2027 and, of course, we’ll likely see Canada in World Cup qualifying at the end of the year," said U.S. head coach Emma Hayes in a statement. "When focusing on our continued preparations and growth as a team, the SheBelieves Cup is of great value. Each team brings different strengths and will challenge us to find success in all parts of the field, which is exactly what we need as we continue our process to build toward the big events on the horizon.”

The tournament kicks off on March 1 in Nashville at GEODIS Park, where Canada will face Colombia, followed by the U.S. taking on Argentina. On March 4, the action continues in Columbus with Argentina playing Colombia and the U.S. competing against Canada at Miracle-Gro Field. The tournament culminates in New Jersey on March 7 with Canada squaring off against Argentina, while the U.S. takes on Colombia.

The U.S. has a storied history in the SheBelieves Cup, having won seven out of the 11 tournaments held to date, although Japan took home the title last year. This year’s cup promises to be another exciting chapter in the competition’s history.

“This competition is a fantastic opportunity to once again measure ourselves against high-quality opponents who are all likely to be at the 2027 World Cup," stated Canada coach Casey Stoney. "The SheBelieves Cup has served as a great test for our group in previous years, and we’re thrilled to be able to return for another chance to win the competition. Each team brings a different style which will pose a challenge and ultimately prepare us to become the team we need to be.”

As the tournament approaches, fans can look forward to not only competitive matches but also the opportunity to witness the evolving landscape of women's soccer. With the stakes high and the spotlight on these teams, the SheBelieves Cup is set to be an exciting showcase of talent and determination, providing valuable insights as each nation gears up for their future challenges.
