Urgent Warning: Zootopia 2 Popcorn Buckets Linked to Life-Threatening Hazard in Aussie Cinemas!

A special popcorn bucket promoting the animated film Zootopia 2 has been recalled by Village Cinemas in Australia due to serious safety concerns. The bucket was part of a limited-time offer on November 27 and 28, coinciding with the film's release, which includes a cameo from conservationist Robert Irwin.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) issued a warning stating that the bucket’s handle could detach from the main body, potentially releasing small parts that pose a choking hazard, particularly for children. This alarming news underlines the risk of severe injury or even death if a child attempts to swallow these loose components.

In their recall notice, the ACCC emphasized the gravity of the issue: “[There's a] risk of death or serious injury from choking if children try to swallow small parts from the popcorn bucket.” This highlights the critical need for immediate consumer awareness and action.

The popcorn bucket was part of what Village Cinemas dubbed the "Character Ears Snack Set," which included not just the bucket but also fluffy ears, a drink cup, and a medium popcorn box. Manufactured in China, these items were available across multiple locations in New South Wales, Tasmania, and Victoria.

If you or someone you know purchased this popcorn bucket, the ACCC has outlined specific steps for consumers:

  • Stop using the popcorn bucket immediately and keep it out of reach of children.
  • Return the popcorn bucket to any Village Cinema for a full refund.
  • If the bucket has already been disposed of or cannot be returned, contact Village Cinemas for further guidance.

Village Cinemas has also made a public appeal to patrons, urging them to cease using the potentially dangerous bucket and to safeguard it from young children. In their statement, they explained, “In some instances, the bucket handle may come loose, causing the clamp holding the handle to come away from the bucket. Small screws may become dislodged and are a choking hazard to small children.”

The cinema chain has introduced a mail-in return option for customers who may not have a Village Cinema nearby, ensuring that safety is prioritized in every regard. This proactive approach reflects an understanding of consumer concerns about product safety, especially in light of recent recalls that have raised awareness about product quality and child safety.

As the film industry continues to engage audiences with merchandise tied to beloved characters, this incident serves as a critical reminder of the importance of safety in promotional products. Parents and guardians should remain vigilant not only about the content of the films their children watch but also about the products associated with them. For those interested in keeping up with lifestyle and entertainment news, Village Cinemas encourages following their updates on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
