Tulsa's Shocking New Patrol: What They’re Hiding About Downtown Safety! You Won’t Believe This!

TULSA, Okla. – In a significant move to enhance public safety and improve police response times, the Tulsa Police Department (TPD) has announced the establishment of a new Downtown Patrol division. This marks the city's first new patrol division in over 35 years, aimed specifically at addressing the unique demands created by the rapid growth and increasing popularity of downtown entertainment venues.

According to TPD officials, the restructuring of the department's divisions is a response to the challenges posed by the bustling urban environment. "Our department’s current structure and divisional boundaries have struggled to keep up with the unique demands and the rapid growth of the popular venues downtown," said Tulsa Police Chief Dennis Larsen. He emphasized that it has been at least 15 years since TPD last reorganized its divisional boundaries, highlighting the necessity for this change. The new Downtown Patrol division is expected to provide relief department-wide by creating new beat boundaries for all four existing patrol divisions.

Coverage and Operational Areas

The new Downtown Patrol division will cover several key areas, including the Greenwood District, 23rd Street and Jackson Avenue, 18th Street and Boston Avenue, Cherry Street, the Pearl District, and the popular Gathering Place. Officers assigned to this division will respond to calls both within and outside the Inner Dispersal Loop (IDL), a central area known for its vibrant nightlife and entertainment options. The TPD anticipates that the new division will be operational by the end of August.

In an effort to foster community input, TPD is currently seeking suggestions from officers for the division’s official name. For the time being, the Downtown Patrol division will operate out of the existing downtown police facility, located in the former Family Safety Center space.

In addition to this new division, TPD is in the process of relocating its headquarters to the former State Farm regional office at 12222 E. State Farm Blvd. in East Tulsa. This move is part of a larger plan to establish a consolidated Public Safety Center, which aims to enhance operational efficiency across the department.

Community Reactions

The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from local business owners and community members. Chris Economou, owner of Coney I-Lander, expressed his support, noting the importance of police presence during the summer months when crime rates among teenagers tend to rise. “Summer is a bad time for teenagers, males, cause I was one, and they can get out of hand. So it’s good to have some presence here again, for everybody’s safety,” Economou stated. He pointed out that local merchants have long anticipated this initiative, viewing it as a positive step toward ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors.

The decision to create a Downtown Patrol division reflects a proactive approach by the Tulsa Police Department to adapt to the evolving needs of a growing urban landscape. As the city continues to develop, this new division aims to not only improve response times but also strengthen the connection between law enforcement and the community it serves.

With the expectation that the new division will enhance public safety and community trust, Tulsa residents can look forward to a more responsive police presence in the heart of the city. This initiative is not just about policing; it is about fostering a sense of security and community collaboration in Tulsa's vibrant downtown.
