This 18-Year-Old's Shocking New Talent Agency Is Disrupting Hollywood—Will You Miss Out?

For college students keen on venturing into the entertainment industry, the student-led organization known as The Talent Co offers a promising space for self-expression and professional growth. Founded by KJ Parker, a sophomore health science major, the organization aims to bridge the gap between aspiring talents and the opportunities often limited to those outside academia.
What is The Talent Co?
The inception of The Talent Co traces back to Parker's own experiences as a freshman. Identifying a lack of organizations tailored to students interested in modeling, creative directing, or fashion, she took the initiative to create a platform where these students could thrive. “When I first came here, my biggest thing was trying to be a part of organizations that catered toward acting and modeling. And for me, I think the spaces that they already had here weren’t what I was looking for,” Parker shared. “I wanted to be still pushing my career a bit further. So I was like, ‘If I can’t find a space, I’ll just create the space,’ and that’s just kind of what I did.”
The Talent Co isn't just for aspiring models; it encompasses diverse roles including photography, video editing, and creative direction. This inclusivity allows students who may prefer behind-the-scenes work to find their niche within the organization, fostering a comprehensive approach to the entertainment industry.
The organization focuses on establishing connections between student models and professional talent agencies, which can be crucial for gaining field experience and networking opportunities. “The goal for this semester is to really just focus on photography and modeling just so we can finalize those branches and make them as professional as possible, but ultimately we’re trying to get more of our models signed,” Parker stated. “I think I had four or five of the models signed officially with agencies, and I wanted to continue that, but also kind of grow a family-like environment with the models.”
Building Community & Careers
While The Talent Co is dedicated to providing professional outreach, it also prioritizes creating a strong community among its members. This community aspect is what draws many students to participate. Brooklyn Martin, a junior finance major and model with The Talent Co, expressed her positive experience: “I had to join Talent Co just because I wanted to try something a little bit different. In The Talent Co they have networking that they do with other agencies. My first impression though was everybody was cool; I do feel that everybody has such different and big personalities, but everyone’s also so integrated. I felt like I could talk to anybody there.”
Moreover, the organization is open to recreationally interested students, providing an inclusive atmosphere for those who want to explore the entertainment industry without the pressure of professionalism. Weekly meetings are held from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays, inviting newcomers to join and learn more about what The Talent Co has to offer.
The organization is actively looking for new members and plans to host an open casting call on February 20, although specifics about the time and location have yet to be announced. Students interested in following the casting process can stay updated via The Talent Co’s Instagram page.
The Talent Co serves as a vital resource for students at a time when opportunities in the entertainment sector can be difficult to access. By fostering a collaborative environment and connecting aspiring talents with industry professionals, it not only empowers individual careers but also builds a supportive community. Such initiatives are increasingly important in today's competitive landscape, where networking and experience often dictate success in the arts.
