TRENTON — Governor Mikie Sherrill has nominated Kevin Jarvis to serve as the next Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The announcement comes as New Jersey continues to navigate the complexities of workforce development in an evolving job market.

He previously practiced labor law as a partner with the firm O’Brien, Belland & Bushinsky, where he handled contract negotiations, grievance and arbitration hearings, unfair labor practice cases, and Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) litigation. His return to public service follows nearly four years as Chief of Staff at the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, a role that equipped him with vital insights into the department's operations and challenges.

Jarvis’s career also includes significant litigation experience, representing hundreds of workers from various sectors, including the building trades and railroad industry, who suffered injuries from workplace exposure to hazardous materials like asbestos and diesel exhaust fumes. This background underscores his commitment to advocating for worker rights and safety.

Academically, Jarvis earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and English from Rutgers University in 1993 and a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2001.
