San Diego Wave FC Shocker: Delphine Cascarino's Sudden Exit Reveals Jaw-Dropping Reasons!

In a significant development for women’s soccer, the San Diego Wave FC has announced that they will mutually part ways with forward Delphine Cascarino. The French international, who has been with the team for 18 months, cited the need to be closer to her family as the primary reason for her departure.
Throughout her time with the Wave, Cascarino made a notable impact on the pitch. She started in 30 of the 34 games during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, contributing significantly to the team with seven goals and nine assists. Her performance earned her the NWSL Player of the Week award in April 2025 after scoring two goals against Racing Louisville FC. In May of the same year, she was also named to the NWSL Team of the Month for the first time, highlighting her consistent effectiveness.
Cascarino's prowess on the field did not go unnoticed, as she received a nomination for the NWSL Most Valuable Player award, which was ultimately awarded to Temwa Chawinga of the Kansas City Current. Her contributions were vital in solidifying the Wave's competitiveness in the league.
Before joining the San Diego Wave, Cascarino spent nine successful years with OL Lyon, where she made 134 appearances and netted 20 goals. Her international career has also been impressive; she has been a regular member of the French National Team since earning her first cap in 2016, accumulating a total of 83 appearances and scoring 16 goals. Cascarino participated in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup but unfortunately missed the 2023 tournament due to injury. However, she made a comeback with the French Olympic team in 2024, reinforcing her status as a significant player in international women’s soccer.
As for what lies ahead for Cascarino, her wish to be closer to family has led to speculation regarding her next move. Many believe she may aim to play near her twin sister, Estelle Cascarino, who currently plays as a defender for the Women’s Super League club West Ham. Rumors have already surfaced linking her to the London City Lionesses, but no official confirmation has been made.
Cascarino’s departure marks the end of a fruitful chapter for both her and the San Diego Wave. As the club looks to fill her shoes, fans and analysts alike will be keenly watching to see how her next steps unfold in the professional soccer landscape.
