Bart Story, a revered figure in the entertainment research landscape, passed away on Tuesday in Los Angeles at the age of 63 due to complications related to metastatic urothelial carcinoma, as confirmed by a family representative. With a career spanning over two decades, Story was best known for his impactful role as the senior director of market research at MarketCast, an entertainment advising firm that assists studios, networks, and streamers in enhancing audience engagement and positioning strategies.

“Across his two-decade career with MarketCast, Bart helped hundreds of movies achieve success, meaningfully connecting with thousands of clients, focus group respondents, and teammates along the way,” said Jeremy Radisich, President of Entertainment at MarketCast. “His work was characterized by a thoughtful and gentle approach that made him not only an excellent collaborator and partner, but an incredible person who made an impact on everyone he met.”

Before his tenure at MarketCast, Story was the director of research at SAG-AFTRA, the prominent union representing film and television actors, among others. He also played a significant role at the Video Software Dealers Association, where he was influential in modernizing the video distribution market, aligning it with the rapid changes in technology and consumer behavior.

Story’s academic credentials included a master’s degree from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, alongside a bachelor’s degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. His journey in the entertainment industry began at a young age when he worked in movie theaters, which fueled his passion for the field.

Residing in Denver, Colorado, Story is survived by his husband, Patrick Jager, and their son, Brandt. A private celebration of his life is planned for the near future, as family and friends gather to remember a man who not only contributed to the industry but also touched the lives of those around him.
