Kona Man Claims to Be God: Shocking Details of His Robbery and Assault Exam Revealed!

A man claiming to be God during a violent encounter at a Kona hotel will undergo a mental fitness evaluation. This decision comes after Andrew Green, 40, appeared in Kona District Court on Monday, facing multiple charges stemming from a December 2 incident at the Holiday Inn Express on Sarona Road.
During the preliminary hearing, Green's defense requested to suspend the proceedings until the mental fitness exam could be completed, a motion that was granted by Judge Kimberly Tsuchiya without objection from the state. The case has been rescheduled for February 18, and Green remains in custody with bail set at $25,000.
Green faces serious charges, including:
- First-degree robbery
- First-degree terroristic threatening
- Second-degree theft
- First-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle
- Third-degree assault
- Fourth-degree criminal property damage
The events of December 2 unfolded when Green entered the hotel lobby while brandishing a 4-foot pipe, allegedly shouting, “I am God and I can do or take whatever I want.” A 67-year-old night auditor reported that Green jumped over the counter and swung the pipe twice, although fortunately, the victim evaded injury. Green then took the victim's backpack, which contained various items including prescription glasses valued at $600 and several bottles of medication, before fleeing the scene.
Following the robbery, local law enforcement reviewed surveillance footage and conducted area searches but initially could not locate Green. Later that same day, Kona Patrol officers responded to an unrelated assault at the Kona Coast Shopping Center on Palani Road. A 53-year-old security guard encountered Green sitting outside a closed business. When the guard instructed Green to leave, Green reportedly became aggressive, punching the victim multiple times and even using a broken rain guard from the vehicle to stab the guard's forearm, causing pain and redness.
After the altercation, the security guard managed to disarm Green, who then fled the area. Officers were able to track Green down shortly thereafter, leading to his arrest near the 75-900 block of Henry Street.
While in custody at the Kealakehe Police Station, court documents reveal that Green exhibited erratic behavior. When officers attempted to advise him of his rights, he was found wrapped in a blanket, responding with statements like, “Does God question you? And what gives you the authority to talk to him?” He reportedly continued to shout nonsensical remarks, insisting that God would pass judgment on the police.
This troubling case highlights not only the serious nature of the alleged crimes but also raises questions about mental health and public safety. The upcoming mental fitness evaluation will be crucial in determining Green's penal responsibility and the next steps in the judicial process.
