KC Global and Rein Entertainment's Shocking 5-Project Deal: What Are They Hiding?

The landscape of international storytelling is evolving as KC Global Media, a U.S.-based media company, and Rein Entertainment, a Filipino production house, announce their collaboration on a slate of five new titles. This partnership follows their successful joint effort in creating the six-part series Drug War: A Conspiracy of Silence, which premiered at the Content Asia Summit. The new projects are currently in development, with plans to begin filming in 2026 and 2027.
Among the titles in development is Dose, an eight-episode crime drama that centers on two formidable women: a rising triad queenpin and a determined international police agent. As their paths cross, they find themselves in a tense alliance, hinting at complex narratives that explore power dynamics and moral dilemmas. Notably, Dose was selected for the Producers’ Pitch at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest earlier this year, underscoring its potential appeal in the international market.
KC Global Media, co-founded by former Sony executives Andy Kaplan and George Chien, manages a diverse portfolio of pay TV channels across Southeast Asia and Korea, including the English-language channel AXN, the anime channel Animax, and several others. With headquarters in Los Angeles and offices throughout Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, China, The Philippines, and South Korea, the company aims to leverage its extensive reach to distribute content that resonates globally.
Founded in 2017, Rein Entertainment has already made its mark with socio-political thrillers and romantic comedies alike, including titles such as Bagman (2019), Betcin (2021), and the suspense thriller Nanahimik Ang Gabi (2022). Their recent release, the romance film Elevator, achieved the top spot on Netflix’s non-English-language movie chart in 2024, demonstrating the growing appetite for diverse narratives in the streaming landscape.
Bonnie Wiryani, VP of revenue and head of content sales at KC Global Media Distribution, remarked on the significance of the new slate, stating, “This slate marks an exciting new chapter in our partnership with Rein Entertainment, as we double down on bold, globally resonant storytelling from Asia.” She emphasized the investment in character-driven originals that challenge genre conventions, particularly with powerful female leads, suggesting that this approach could pave the way for remakes, prequels, and sequels.
Echoing Wiryani's sentiments, Lino S Cayetano, the president and CEO of Rein Entertainment, highlighted the advantages of this collaboration, saying, “[KC Global Media’s] vast international reach and expertise in elevating Asian stories for global platforms make them an ideal partner. Together, we look forward to creating more content that reflects the dynamic voices and visions emerging from the region, and we’re thrilled to bring them to international audiences.”
This partnership not only signifies a commitment to innovative storytelling but also represents a broader trend of international collaborations in the media sector. As audiences become increasingly diverse and their tastes evolve, companies like KC Global Media and Rein Entertainment are positioning themselves to meet these demands with authentic narratives that resonate across borders. The series Drug War: A Conspiracy of Silence serves as a testament to this potential, paving the way for future projects that aim to challenge conventions and elevate underrepresented voices in the global entertainment industry.
