Jon Jones Shocks Fans: UFC Refuses $15 Million for White House Showdown—What Happens Next?

Former two-division UFC champion Jon Jones recently shared insights into his stalled negotiations with the UFC for a potential fight at an upcoming event dubbed the "White House card." In a social media response to a fan on Saturday, Jones revealed he asked for a purse that was "substantially less" than the $30 million he was initially granted for a heavyweight unification fight against Tom Aspinall scheduled for 2025. However, he still sought more than $15 million.
According to ESPN's Ariel Helwani, Jones had been granted a lucrative $30 million payout for the potential bout against Aspinall but later opted to step back from that fight. Jones expressed his readiness to compete on the White House card, stating he was "ready, willing and physically able" to participate. Despite his eagerness, UFC officials reportedly refused to offer more than $15 million for the fight, prompting Jones to assert, "I felt like our fight was worth more."
At 38 years old, Jones is regarded as one of the greatest fighters in mixed martial arts history. He had campaigned vigorously for a fight against Alex Pereira at the White House card, but Pereira ended up challenging Ciryl Gane for the interim UFC heavyweight title at the event scheduled for June 14. Following the announcement of the fight lineup, tensions escalated between Jones and UFC CEO Dana White, who remarked that Jones was never "even remotely in my mind to fight at the White House." White also controversially suggested it was "very fair" to consider Jones retired.
In response to White's comments, Jones took to social media, expressing his frustration and calling the UFC's decision "so f***ing painful." He also demanded his release from the promotion, accusing White of making public statements that were "not true." On March 9, Jones stated, "If the UFC truly feels like I’m done, then I respectfully ask to be released from my contract today. No more spins, no more games."
The upcoming White House card has faced criticism for its perceived lackluster lineup. The event will feature a six-fight card headlined by a lightweight title unification bout between current champion Ilia Topuria and interim champion Justin Gaethje. As the card approaches, fans are left wondering about the future of one of MMA's most celebrated fighters, who remains in the spotlight, even as negotiations fall apart.
