Is Your Gym Secretly Using AI to Track Your Every Move? The Shocking Truth Revealed!

In an era where artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping various sectors, a new gym in Santa Monica has taken the concept of fitness into the digital age. Fred Fitness, which opened its doors on November 7, is being marketed as the world’s first full-scale AI-powered gym. Founded by entrepreneur Alfred Enzensberger, who previously owned a chain of over 500 gyms in Europe called Clever Fit, Fred Fitness aims to revolutionize the fitness landscape with advanced technology.

“It’s been the same for decades: we lift things up and we put things down,” said Andre Enzensberger, Alfred’s brother and the CEO of Fred Fitness. “But with the emergence of AI, we can lift things up and put them down more efficiently and with real thought behind it.” This innovative approach sets Fred Fitness apart from traditional gyms, as it integrates AI into every aspect of its operations rather than simply adding it to select machines.

Membership at Fred Fitness starts at $100 per month, which includes a personalized workout plan designed to meet each member's fitness goals. Before beginning their gym journey, prospective members undergo a 45-minute assessment to evaluate their metabolism, mobility, strength, and cardio, culminating in their “BioAge.” The gym's AI then analyzes this information along with members' fitness goals, such as desired workout frequency and target areas for improvement.

Once the assessment is completed, the AI generates a customized workout plan. Each member receives a wristband that they can tap on machines, allowing the equipment to display personalized metrics and adjust to their unique fitness levels. For example, the machines show members their real age and strength BioAge, which helps tailor their training weights based on strength tests.

The AI system continues to adapt as members progress, ensuring that their workouts remain challenging and effective. Every six weeks, the workout regimen is updated to prevent plateaus, incorporating methods such as adaptive training and negative training to keep muscles engaged.

As AI technology becomes increasingly prevalent in everyday life, it raises questions about its future implications in various fields, including fitness. A Pew Research report from September 2025 noted that 95% of U.S. adults have heard at least a little about AI, marking a 10% increase from three years prior. “Not even us — the world’s first AI gym — have a clear vision of how far it’s going to evolve to change the fitness industry even more,” Andre Enzensberger acknowledged. “But what we do know is that it’s helping people gain results.”

The gym aims to utilize AI as a tool that enhances the training experience without diminishing the essential human aspect of fitness. Staff members at Fred Fitness are referred to as “member concierges,” highlighting their role in guiding members through their fitness journey. They are fully trained to understand fitness principles and assist members in their workouts, merging technological precision with human expertise.

“It’s just a nice handshake between man and technology,” Andre Enzensberger said, emphasizing the importance of trainers in complementing AI's capabilities.

Despite the challenges that come with integrating cutting-edge technology, such as bugs and necessary updates, Alvino stressed that these hurdles are part of the evolution. “AI is simply a tool,” he explained, countering the misconception that technology might replace human jobs. “We’re giving people more opportunities to help others interact with this technology.”

Members are already experiencing the benefits of this innovative approach. According to Andre Enzensberger, members generally see an 18% increase in strength within their first two months, provided they commit to gym sessions three days a week. Frances Nin, a member who previously preferred home workouts, noted, “I love being here because the workouts are impeccable. The workouts are just more efficient than I’ve ever gotten at any other gym.”

Fred Fitness' inaugural location in Santa Monica represents a shift in how fitness can be approached, especially for those intimidated by traditional gyms or unsure how to use equipment effectively. With its focus on personalized, AI-driven workouts, Fred Fitness is not just enhancing the gym experience; it's redefining it.

As the gym prepares to open a second location in Culver City by late summer 2026, it will likely pave the way for further innovations in the fitness industry, demonstrating that technology and personal health can coexist harmoniously.
