Is Your Child Safe? Shocking Truths Revealed During Fox Valley's Families Month!

APPLETON (WLUK) -- In a notable move to support local families, officials in the Fox Valley proclaimed April as "Strengthening Families Month." This initiative was announced during a news conference held at the newly established First 5 Fox Valley Family Resource Center building located on College Avenue in Appleton.
The proclamation was made by the Citizen Review Panel serving Outagamie County, an organization tasked with monitoring and evaluating state and county Child Protective Services (CPS). Their overarching goal is to promote effective practices, identify areas needing improvement, and implement solutions aimed at safeguarding children while nurturing family well-being.
Kay Kiesling, the division manager for Outagamie County Children, Youth and Families, highlighted the importance of this initiative. "There is nothing more pressing and dear to my heart than seeing all children thrive. One of the best ways this can happen is through the prevention of child abuse and neglect," she stated. The profound negative impacts of child abuse and neglect resonate not only with the victims but also with family members and communities at large.
“Our next generation, our most vulnerable community members, do not need to carry this burden. They do not need to be harmed, scarred, forever damaged or even forever lost by the adults in their lives. By strengthening our families through thoughtful parenting, making feelings matter, demonstrating inner parental strength, building strong connections and asking for practical help, together we can and will prevent child abuse and neglect,” said Kiesling.
With April also recognized nationally as Child Abuse Prevention Month, local officials are optimistic that this proclamation will elevate awareness about the necessity for communities to unite in providing essential resources. Such resources are critical for creating and sustaining strong, healthy families, which ultimately leads to safer environments for children.
Rep. Lee Snodgrass, a Democrat from Appleton, echoed these sentiments by emphasizing the fundamental needs that families must have fulfilled. “When you have a safe place to live, a roof over your head, when you know where you're going to be at night. When you don't have to worry about food, when there is no food insecurity. When you have access to health care when you get sick, when you can afford that. When we have all of these things, families are in a much better place to be the best parents that they can be. All of this is related,” he explained.
This proclamation is not just a symbolic gesture; it is a call to action for residents in the Fox Valley. By fostering a culture of collaboration and support, local leaders aim to create a nurturing environment that empowers families to thrive. The community's ability to unite in addressing the challenges of child abuse and neglect may very well define the future well-being of its youngest members.
As families navigate the complexities of modern life, initiatives like "Strengthening Families Month" are crucial for promoting awareness and encouraging constructive practices that can lead to healthier, safer households for all.
