Is Punjab on the Brink of a Startup Revolution? Minister Arora Reveals Shocking Plans That Could Change Everything!

On a significant evening for the entrepreneurial community, TiE Chandigarh hosted the Startup & Innovation Conclave-2025, bringing together a mix of founders, industry leaders, and innovators. This event was powered by AU Small Finance Bank and supported by Startup Punjab, showcasing the collaborative spirit vital for fostering innovation in the region.

The president of TiE Chandigarh, Puneet Verma, highlighted the various activities and achievements of the Chandigarh Chapter, emphasizing its commitment to nurturing startups. “The prize money, which is being distributed among 24 startup teams of TiEU and TiE Women, is being funded by US-based Ranbir Singh, through his charitable trust,” Verma revealed, underscoring the financial support critical for these young businesses to thrive.

The event featured Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora as the chief guest, along with Alba Smeriglio, the British Deputy High Commissioner in Chandigarh, serving as the guest of honor. Arora congratulated Verma and his team for organizing the conclave, commending their efforts to boost the startup ecosystem in Punjab.

“We are doing our best as far as startups are concerned. We are doing a lot to encourage industries and bring in investment. Our goal is to become the most startup-friendly state in North India. We are going to have fast decisions, transparent policies, and strong ecosystem support for startups,”

Arora stated. His emphasis on transparent policies and quick decision-making reflects a broader trend among state governments to attract investment in technology and innovation.

Highlighting Punjab's strategic location and solid connectivity, Arora noted the region's potential, especially given its robust network of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and diaspora. He encouraged TiE members to explore South Korea’s 'Silicon Valley'—a burgeoning tech hub near Seoul—suggesting that Punjab's government plans to replicate this ecosystem in Mohali. The proposed partnership with TiE aims to create an environment conducive to innovation and startup growth.

In her address, Smeriglio congratulated the winners from the women’s and TiE university programs, reiterating the global potential of the region's startups. She stressed the importance of collaboration between the UK and local startups, highlighting how such partnerships can enhance innovation.

The conclave also featured a panel discussion on ‘Academia–Industry Collaboration for Innovation’, bringing together experts to explore the synergies between educational institutions and industry leaders. This aspect is particularly crucial, as fostering collaboration can drive technological advancements and entrepreneurial success.

As TiE Chandigarh continues to shape its narrative in the startup ecosystem, the support from both the government and private entities like AU Small Finance Bank serves as a substantial foundation. With the prize money boosting 24 startups and a vision for a collaborative innovation culture, the region is poised for growth. The commitment from leaders like Arora and Verma signals a promising future for startups in Punjab, positioning it as a competitive player in North India's entrepreneurial landscape.
