Is Browns' Coach Kevin Stefanski on the Hot Seat? INSIDER Reveals Shocking Trade Talks!

In a rare move, the NFL may see a head coach on the trading block this offseason, with rumors swirling around Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski. According to Sports Illustrated NFL insider Conor Orr, discussions about trading Stefanski are gaining traction within league circles. Orr noted that there was "some league-wide chatter about the potential of a Kevin Stefanski trade — 'smoke,' as one industry source put it."
While trading a head coach is uncommon, it isn't without precedent. The most recent example was the Denver Broncos trading for Sean Payton from the New Orleans Saints in 2023, which involved first- and second-round picks. Historically, the New York Jets have been active in this arena, trading for Bill Parcells in 1997 and sending Bill Belichick back to New England in 2000 in exchange for three draft selections.
However, Orr emphasized that a trade for Stefanski "didn’t feel imminent or even expected" as of last Friday. The head coach has been at the helm for nearly six seasons, leading the Browns to two postseason appearances in 2020 and 2023, earning the NFL Coach of the Year award in both seasons. Yet, the past two seasons have been challenging for the Browns, who recorded a dismal 3-14 record, tied for the worst in the league, in 2024, and are currently headed into Week 18 with a 4-12 record this season.
Amid the swirling rumors, Browns players have voiced their support for Stefanski. Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders stated, “We don’t listen to the ‘outside noise.’ He’s our coach. We view him as the same as we view him the first week. You know, we got the utmost respect for him.”
Four-time All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett was even more straightforward, saying, “I want things to be successful, however that looks. I’m committed to winning. As long as the team and organization are doing so and committed to that same thing, I’m all on board. If we’re thinking anything other than winning — tanking or rebuilding — that’s not me.”
The situation surrounding Stefanski raises questions about the future direction of the Browns franchise. As the team grapples with its recent performance, the organization must weigh the potential benefits of a coaching change against the risks of instability, particularly as they look to rebuild and improve heading into next season. For now, the uncertainty looms large, but it seems clear that Stefanski's position is under scrutiny, making the offseason one to watch closely in Cleveland.
