GHS Soccer Shatters Expectations: Boys Dominate with Unbelievable 5-0-1 Start, But What About the Girls?

In an exhilarating display of teamwork and resilience, the Gloucester High School boys’ soccer team battled to a 3-3 tie against Jamestown during their home game on March 18. The match extended into double overtime, showcasing the players' determination as they fought back from being three goals down. Coach Peter LeBel praised the team's effort, highlighting the contributions of players like Carter Thompson, K.J. Wolford, and Corey Skay, who each scored, with assists from Wolford and Gavin Seitz.

The boys' soccer team continued their strong start to the season, achieving five wins and one tie within the first week. Their next challenge came on March 20, when they dominated Lancaster, winning 8-0. The game began with an own goal by Lancaster, followed by goals from Mason Schmidt, Kollin Wilson, Skay, Rory Dodier-Fernandez, Brody Sutton, and two from Tristan Gothreau. Assists were credited to Skay, Wilson, and Camden Bower.

The momentum carried into a decisive victory against Lakeland on March 21, where the Dukes secured an 11-0 win. Skay again stood out, netting two goals along with contributions from Schmidt, Wilson, Max Bell, Gothreau, Bryce Fisher, Seitz, Bower, Dodier-Fernandez, and Hunter Valentine. Wolford and Skay each provided two assists, while Conner Latour, Fisher, and Owen Wilcox added one apiece.

The next night, Gloucester faced Grafton in another home match, winning 2-0. Goals were made by Wolford and Ryan Williams, with an assist from Skay. Coach LeBel noted that the game was a significant win against a district rival.

The Lady Dukes kicked off their season impressively on March 23, achieving a 10-0 victory against Lakeland. Goals were scored by Lilyan Wright, Aubrey Milawski, Rylee Amaral (who scored two), Ava Santellanes, Melanie Mueller, Sophie Starnes, Kaitlyn Hearon, and Layla Santellanes. Assists came from Wright, Mueller, and two each from Amaral and Santellanes.

In a follow-up match on March 24, the Lady Dukes triumphed again, this time with a 5-0 win over Grafton. Santellanes led the scoring with four goals, while Mueller added one. Wright and Amaral each provided two assists, further solidifying their offensive prowess.

Looking ahead, both teams are set to face off against York, with the girls scheduled for a home game on March 27 and the boys traveling for their match on March 28.
