Florida Woman Arrested in Shocking Shooting Incident at Rihanna's Home—What Happened?

LOS ANGELES — A Florida woman has been charged in connection with a shocking incident that occurred at the home of music superstar Rihanna. On Tuesday, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, was formally charged with one count of attempted murder and ten counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, along with three additional counts of shooting at an inhabited vehicle or dwelling. All 14 charges are felonies, highlighting the severity of the situation.
The alleged shooting took place on Sunday afternoon outside Rihanna's gated residence in the Beverly Hills area. Remarkably, at the time of the shooting, the Grammy Award-winning artist, her partner A$AP Rocky, their three children, and Rihanna's mother were on the property. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the incident left the community shaken.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman confirmed the charges, underscoring the gravity of the situation. Ortiz was initially scheduled for arraignment before Judge Theresa McGonigle on Tuesday afternoon in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. Her attorney, Deputy Public Defender Jamarcus Bradford, entered a plea of not guilty on her behalf but later withdrew it, opting to postpone the arraignment until March 25. Ortiz was ordered to be held on a substantial bail of $1.8 million.
During the court proceedings, Judge McGonigle issued a protective order, prohibiting Ortiz from approaching Rihanna, whose legal name is Robin Fenty, and A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers. Ortiz is also barred from possessing any firearms or ammunition, which adds another layer of safety for the high-profile couple.
Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell reported that at least ten people were present at Rihanna's home when the shots were fired. Investigators believe Ortiz drove to Los Angeles from her most recent address in Orlando, Florida, though the exact timeline remains unclear. It has not been established whether she has any personal connection to Rihanna.
Ortiz was arrested shortly after the shooting, with police recovering a weapon at the scene. KABC-TV reported that its coverage included footage showing multiple bullet holes in the home's front gate. According to police dispatch audio, around ten shots were fired during the incident, raising concerns about safety in the affluent neighborhood.
This isn't the first time Rihanna has faced unsettling incidents at her residences. In 2018, a man broke into another home belonging to the singer in the Hollywood Hills and reportedly spent 12 hours inside. He pleaded no contest to several charges, including stalking and vandalism, and received probation in 2019.
As a nine-time Grammy Award winner, Rihanna has seen tremendous success, boasting 14 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including iconic tracks like “We Found Love,” “Work,” “Umbrella,” and “Disturbia.” Beyond her music career, she has also made waves in the beauty industry with her brand, Fenty Beauty, established in 2017. Recently, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky announced the birth of their third child, a daughter named Rocki Irish Mayers, in September.
The charges against Ortiz raise important questions about celebrity safety and the broader implications of such incidents in the lives of public figures. As this case unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by celebrities in maintaining their privacy and security amid their fame.
