In a spirited matchup on Saturday, the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) clinched the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup with a decisive 6-2 victory over the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). This triumph marked UAF's continued dominance in the rivalry, as they now lead the series this year with a record of 14-4 heading into the final two games scheduled for February 27-28 in Fairbanks.

The game kicked off with an explosive first period, where Chase Dafoe and Braden Birnie put the Nanooks ahead early, scoring at 3:55 and 8:01 respectively. These early goals set the tone, but the Seawolves were undeterred.

In the second period, UAA responded with vigor. Tanyon Bajzer scored his first career goal just 1:41 into the period, burying a loose puck in front of the net. Moments later, Dimitry Kebreau found the back of the net, capitalizing on a chance shortly after a Seawolf power play expired at 5:18.

Despite the Seawolves' efforts to turn the tide, the Nanooks maintained pressure throughout the game. Dafoe netted his second goal of the evening at 2:11 in the third period, firing a shot through traffic that eluded UAA goalie Tyler Krivtsov. This goal effectively re-established UAF's lead at 3-2, and just 90 seconds later, Alexander Malinowski extended the advantage with a top-shelf goal.

As the game approached its conclusion, the Nanooks sealed their victory with an empty-net goal from Davis Borozinskis at 17:34, followed by Malinowski's second goal with just 22 seconds remaining on the clock, bringing the final score to 6-2.

In terms of overall performance, Fairbanks outshot Anchorage significantly, leading 29-14 in shots on goal. UAA struggled on special teams, finishing 0-for-3 on the power play, while UAF succeeded on 1-for-2 opportunities.

Krivtsov, the Seawolves' goalie, managed to make 22 saves during the contest, but it was clear that the Nanooks' strong offensive strategy and disciplined play made the difference in this heated rivalry.
