European Tech Giant Drops $18 Million Bombshell: Why Fort Wayne Will Never Be the Same!

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - In a notable step for economic development in Indiana, Tretau, a European technology company specializing in magnet wire production, is expanding its operations to the United States. Operating under the name Tau Wire Corp in the U.S., the company has announced plans to invest $18 million in a new facility in Fort Wayne, which is expected to create more than 70 new jobs over the next four years.

According to Greater Fort Wayne (GFW) Inc., the new plant will be modeled after Tretau’s facility in Italy, incorporating the company's eco-friendly coating technology and advanced manufacturing systems. The new location, referred to as the Summit City site, is projected to be fully operational by 2026.

“Establishing our first manufacturing footprint in the United States represents a pivotal step in our global strategy,” said a company representative.

“Fort Wayne’s strong industrial ecosystem, skilled workforce, and legacy in magnet wire production make it an ideal location for our next phase of growth. This facility will mirror our blueprint Pianezza plant in Italy, combining Italian manufacturing excellence with the flexibility and growth mindset of the U.S. market.”

The company is actively recruiting for positions at the Fort Wayne facility, inviting interested applicants to visit Tretau’s career page for job opportunities. This move has garnered positive reactions from local officials, including Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker, who praised the investment.

“Tretau is going to be a tremendous addition to our manufacturing sector and partner in our community,” Mayor Tucker stated.

“Unique economic development opportunities and new jobs are strong indicators of why our city continues to grow in a meaningful way. I’m very encouraged with the positive outcomes we’re experiencing in the southeast quadrant that will position Tretau and Fort Wayne for current and future success.”

Tretau collaborates with leading automotive and industrial manufacturers to meet growing demands in sectors such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing. The expansion into the U.S. comes at a time of strong global demand, with the company reporting consistent year-over-year growth.

This significant investment not only marks a milestone for Tretau but also underscores Fort Wayne's evolving economic landscape. As the city continues to cultivate a robust industrial ecosystem, the arrival of Tretau may signal further growth and opportunities in the manufacturing sector, particularly in eco-friendly technologies.

As Fort Wayne gears up to welcome Tretau, local job seekers are positioned to benefit from this influx of new employment opportunities, potentially bolstering the city’s economy and enhancing its reputation as a hub for manufacturing innovation.
