The Taylor Ducks varsity soccer teams showcased impressive performances in their recent matchups against the Smithville Tigers on Friday, January 16, as both the boys' and girls' squads secured significant victories in district play.

Boys' Team Dominates

The Ducks' boys' team claimed their most commanding win of the season, defeating Smithville with an astounding score of 8-0. The team wasted no time taking control, netting five goals in the first half alone. They continued their offensive surge in the second half, adding three more goals to secure a shutout. Junior Rivaldo Granados led the charge with two goals and an assist, while teammate Mateo Lopez matched his effort, also scoring twice. Additionally, Jose Lopez Jr. and Aaron Grimaldo each contributed a goal and an assist, with Andres Luna and Angel Rodriguez rounding out the scoring with one goal each.

With this victory, the Ducks improved their overall record to 5-3-1 and now hold a 1-1 record in district play. They faced Giddings in a match on Tuesday before press time and are set to visit Rockdale for another district game on Friday, January 23, at 7 p.m.

Girls' Team Fights Back

The Lady Ducks also had a strong showing, coming away with a 5-1 victory over the Tigers. After a competitive first half that ended in a 1-1 tie, Taylor exploded offensively in the second half, scoring four unanswered goals. Freshman standout Catalina Valverde was instrumental in this victory, netting two goals. Support came from juniors Analisa Arredondo, Kaylie Chavez, and Kaitlyn Crane, each contributing one goal. The assist tally was impressive, with Crane, sophomore Kinzie Johnson, senior Avery Paulson, and senior Zoe Telles all aiding in the scoring effort.

This win marked a significant boost for the Lady Ducks, bringing their overall record to 2-5 and a 1-1 standing in district play. Like their male counterparts, they played Giddings on Tuesday before press time and are scheduled to face Rockdale on Friday, January 23, at 7:15 p.m.
