Côte d’Ivoire's Shocking Move: 500 Women Farmers to Transform Their Futures Overnight!

In a significant move to empower women in agriculture, Côte d’Ivoire is initiating the development of its first technology hubs aimed at enhancing the skills and productivity of women farmers. This initiative seeks to strengthen the agribusiness capacity among women by incorporating innovative technologies and modern processing techniques to help scale their operations.

The project is spearheaded by the Ivorian Ministry of Women, Family and Children in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Transition and Digitalization. Together, they aim to establish multiple hubs that will serve as centers of learning, providing women farmers with access to essential digital tools and advanced agricultural processing skills. This partnership is expected to facilitate the growth of women-led enterprises within the agricultural sector.

Leading the charge is Cybastion, which has been designated as the lead partner for this initiative. The company will play a crucial role in the rollout of these hubs, offering access to digital resources alongside training and mentorship programs tailored specifically for women producers. This support is designed to help these women expand their businesses and foster connections within wider supply chains.

As part of a broader developmental strategy, modern agricultural processing centers will be constructed across 15 localities within nine districts. These facilities are intended to transform raw staple crops into value-added products. Each center will be equipped with laboratories, processing workshops, training rooms, and exhibition spaces, all aimed at stimulating local economic development.

To encourage full participation from women farmers, the initiative integrates childcare services within each center. By addressing this key barrier, the program not only makes training and business activities more accessible but also empowers women to engage fully in the agricultural sector.

This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the vital role women play in agriculture, especially in developing economies. Studies have shown that closing the gender gap in agriculture could significantly increase productivity and economic growth.
