In a significant boost for innovation and workforce engagement, Murmuratto, a workflow automation startup co-founded by David Pagan, a Cornell alumnus from the Class of 2015, made headlines by being among the 86 companies showcased at the prestigious Venture Atlanta conference in October 2025. This annual event, now in its 18th year, set a record with 1,600 attendees, including over 400 investors, at the Woodruff Arts Center and Atlanta Symphony Hall. Organizers sorted through more than 560 applications to select the top companies across 19 sectors, emphasizing the competitive nature of the startup ecosystem.

Founded in 2022, Murmuratto develops software that empowers frontline workers to report issues, inefficiencies, and ideas directly from the production floor. Utilizing advanced artificial intelligence, the platform analyzes this data to identify patterns and help companies address operational challenges more swiftly. Pagan's inspiration for the startup stemmed from his early career experiences abroad, where he led operations teams and realized that while frontline workers often had valuable insights, they struggled to communicate them effectively to management.

“I realized that even though the team often said we could not do something, when I asked the right questions, we could actually find solutions,”

Pagan explained in an interview with The Sun. He emphasized the importance of asking the right questions to unlock the insights that workers already possess.

With a focus on enhancing operations rather than replacing workers, Pagan noted, “When you read about AI and productivity in the workplace, you inevitably come across AI layoffs. Our approach is different. We want to create ‘super workers’ who continuously identify problems and solutions that improve the business.” This philosophy is especially relevant in a landscape where technology often raises concerns about job security.

Murmuratto currently supports manufacturing sites across five U.S. states, specifically targeting highly regulated industries, including pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. In these sectors, operational changes must adhere to strict compliance standards, which can complicate process improvements. However, insights gathered from frontline workers have shown potential for significant improvements. For instance, Pagan shared a case where a worker in a biopharma facility identified a costly practice: using a regulated chemical to clean minor spills. Following the worker's suggestion, management adjusted their cleaning procedures, yielding an annual savings of approximately $50,000.

“That one observation from a frontline worker resulted in $50,000 of savings year after year,”

said Pagan, highlighting how even minor adjustments can have outsized impacts in manufacturing environments.

Developing technology tailored for frontline workers comes with its own set of challenges, particularly ensuring accessibility for users of varying generations and technical expertise. “We needed to make it very easy to use, but at the same time capture a lot of data,” Pagan said. This approach has been instrumental in garnering attention at events like Venture Atlanta, where the startup's recognition serves as validation of its growth and relevance in the market. The conference connects emerging companies with potential investors and industry leaders, providing a platform for visibility and networking opportunities.
