Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a prominent player in the global energy sector, has achieved a significant milestone by being recognized as one of the Top 100 Corporate Startup Stars (CSS) for 2025. This honor, awarded by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Mind the Bridge, places BPCL as the sole Indian organization on this esteemed list, highlighting its exceptional dedication to fostering collaboration between startups and established corporations.

The announcement came during an awards ceremony held at the ICC headquarters in Paris, acknowledging 100 leading companies from the Forbes Global 2000 and Fortune Global 500. These companies were selected for their outstanding commitment to open innovation, startup engagement, and the development of ecosystems that support emerging businesses.

"We are honored to be recognized among the 2025 Top 100 Corporate Startup Stars. This global accolade is a testament to Bharat Petroleum's commitment to building an open innovation ecosystem that fosters entrepreneurship in the country,"

said Shri Sanjay Khanna, Chairman and Managing Director of BPCL.

BPCL's innovative initiative, called 'Ankur', has played a crucial role in this recognition. Since its launch in 2016, Ankur has supported 30 startups focused on groundbreaking solutions in fields such as Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Asset Integrity, Industrial IoT, and Safety Technologies. In line with this initiative, BPCL has also established the BPCL Ankur Fund, designed to invest in promising early-stage startups that align with the company's strategic priorities.

John W. H. Denton AO, Secretary General of the ICC, noted that innovation is essential for global economic growth, stating,

"ICC is proud to support businesses that drive meaningful impact through collaboration from emerging startups to established corporations working together to shape the future of global commerce."

Alberto Onetti, Chairman of Mind the Bridge, emphasized BPCL’s effective approach to innovation. He explained,

"BPCL is a strong case of how a large corporation can strategically drive innovation by partnering with startups and investing in them. Through Project Ankur, BPCL has developed a platform that accelerates the adoption of new technologies while nurturing early-stage entrepreneurs in India's evolving energy sector."

With a refining capacity of around 35.3 million metric tons per annum (MMTPA) across its facilities in Mumbai, Kochi, and Bina, BPCL is the second-largest oil marketing company in India and has attained the coveted Maharatna status. This recognition not only grants greater operational and financial autonomy but also underscores BPCL's pivotal role in the energy market.

BPCL's extensive marketing infrastructure includes more than 23,500 fuel stations, over 6,200 LPG distributorships, and a comprehensive distribution network featuring 79 aviation service stations and five lube blending plants. As the company looks to the future, it is also integrating strategies that align with environmental and social goals. BPCL has taken steps toward sustainability by establishing electric vehicle charging stations at over 6,500 fuel stations and aims to become a Net Zero Energy Company by 2040, focusing on Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

Beyond economic contributions, BPCL actively partners with communities, undertaking initiatives in education, water conservation, and health. With the core purpose of 'Energising Lives', the company's vision is to be an admired global energy entity that leverages talent, innovation, and technology.

The ICC represents more than 45 million companies across 170 countries and aims to ensure that business works for everyone. In partnership with Mind the Bridge, which operates as an innovation advisory firm connecting startups with established corporations, initiatives like the Corporate Startup Stars Awards serve to spotlight companies that excel in fostering innovation.

As BPCL continues to mark its 50th year in shaping the future of energy, this recognition not only highlights its commitment to innovation but also reinforces its strategic role in advancing India's energy transition in an increasingly competitive global landscape.
