Four Men's Soccer Stars Make Academic History – You Won't Believe Who Made the Cut!

MIAMI – The College Sports Communicators, previously known as CoSIDA, has unveiled its 2025 Men's Soccer Academic All-District Team, recognizing the hard work and achievements of student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom. Four standout players from the FIU Panthers have earned this prestigious honor: seniors David Boccuzzo and Joao Domingues, along with graduate students Mathys Lefebvre and Owen Travis.
David Boccuzzo, a Political Science major from Orlando, Florida, has maintained an impressive 3.93 GPA and is poised to graduate this spring. Throughout the season, he participated in all 19 matches, starting 17 of them, and showcased his skills by scoring one goal and providing two assists. Boccuzzo ranked third on the team in minutes played, completing a full 90 minutes in eight matches. Notably, he netted his first goal as a Panther during a 1-0 victory against Memphis on September 12, and contributed assists in games against Stony Brook on September 6 and No. 1 Portland on September 30.
Joao Domingues, also a senior, has excelled in his studies as a mechanical engineering major, holding a 3.89 GPA. As the longest-tenured player on the team in 2024, Domingues made significant contributions by playing in all 19 matches, with 17 starts, accumulating over 1,305 minutes of play. He completed the season with a career-high of five assists, including two multi-assist games, and concluded his FIU career having played in 69 matches with 13 assists overall.
Graduate student Mathys Lefebvre, pursuing an MBA with a focus on sports administration, achieved a 3.88 GPA while playing in 16 matches, starting 14 of them. The Paris native logged over 1,248 minutes and had an impressive ten matches where he played for 90 minutes or more. His performance has significantly impacted his team's success, demonstrating a balance of academic excellence and athletic prowess.
Owen Travis, another graduate student studying Mass Communications, boasts a 3.81 GPA and served as a co-captain for the Panthers. He started in 17 matches, ranking second on the team in total minutes with 1,482. This season, Travis also set personal records with two goals, including a pivotal game-winner against No. 24 Charlotte on October 24, and added an assist to his performance.
The recognition of these four players underscores the increasing importance placed on academic achievement within collegiate sports.
