You Won't Believe the Shocking Upset That Ended Soccer's 2026 Spring Season—What Happened Next Will Leave You Speechless!

LARAMIE, Wyoming (5/1/26) – The University of Wyoming soccer team concluded its spring season last week, and the Cowgirls are buoyed by their progress as they set their sights on summer training and the upcoming 2026 fall season. Coach Josh Purdum and the team expressed a sense of excitement about their growth, both on and off the field.
“This team grew so much from an on-the-field perspective, as well as off the field,” said Haley Bartel, a key player on the team. “Everyone is so excited and ready to compete in the fall and show off all of our hard work to this point.”
During the spring, Wyoming participated in various tournaments and matches, showcasing their skills at both home and away venues. Notably, they took part in an 8v8 Tournament in Fort Collins, playing multiple matches in single-day events across several weekends. Such experiences were crucial for team cohesion and the development of players throughout the roster.
“Spring is such an important time for development and getting the entire roster playing time,” Coach Purdum stated. “To see our depth improve and more players contributing to scoring goals, we feel a bit more confident going into the fall.”
The Cowgirls demonstrated their scoring prowess and defensive strength throughout the spring, netting a total of 24 goals while conceding only seven during 505 minutes of play. This offensive and defensive balance was highlighted early in March when Wyoming claimed the title at Colorado State’s 8v8 Tournament, facing off against competitive teams such as the Rams, Colorado College, Air Force, Northern Colorado, and Denver.
“Winning the 8v8 Tournament really set the tone for the spring,” remarked Alyssa Glover. “We have put a huge emphasis on competing and winning in everything we do this spring, and I think that really showed up in the tournament in every game.”
As the season wraps up, the Cowgirls are now gearing up for summer workouts, with their report date set for July. The anticipation is building for the regular season, which kicks off on August 13 when they face Drake in Laramie. With the foundation laid in spring training, the team is eager to translate their hard work into competitive success this fall.
The improvements noted in the Cowgirls' performance not only bode well for the upcoming season but also reflect a deeper commitment to excellence within the program. As they prepare for the challenges ahead, players and coaches alike are united in their goal: to build on their achievements and continue their upward trajectory in collegiate soccer.
