You Won't Believe What This Editor's Last Post Reveals About Her Shocking Departure!

As the Fall 2023 semester began at the University of Texas at Austin (UT), Rainna Goel embarked on a journey that would culminate in Spring 2026. Now, as she reflects on her time, it's clear that her experience at The Daily Texan has been a significant part of her undergraduate career. “Very clearly, this newspaper has followed my entire undergraduate journey from the beginning,” she says, highlighting how intertwined her growth and the publication's evolution have been.

For Goel, every late-night edit and early morning approval became a ritual, often interrupting her social plans. “Anyone who has known me over the past three years has known of the Texan, especially my friends who have begged me to finish editing quickly on nights when we had plans,” she recalls, hinting at the dedication that goes into producing quality journalism in a fast-paced environment like the Texan. Yet, even with the occasional stress, she finds immense value in her hard work, stating, “I wouldn’t trade the regular working nights and final approval mornings for anything in the world.”

Over her time in the social media department, Goel transitioned from an understanding of social media focused on aesthetics to a comprehensive grasp of the teamwork and strategy required to maintain a successful social media presence. “Today, I can confidently say that it takes an entire team (and a highly skilled one) to run one successful social media page,” she asserts, underscoring the collaborative nature of modern journalism.

Gratitude permeates her farewell message, as Goel expresses deep appreciation for her family’s unwavering support. “I wouldn’t have made it this far without your belief in me,” she thanks her family, acknowledging that their encouragement has been pivotal to her success.

Her colleagues also receive heartfelt recognition. She extends special thanks to Newton, a mentor who believed in her from fall 2024, maintaining a supportive friendship through changing time zones. Goel reflects on the importance of their relationship, saying, “You’ve been an incredible mentor, and I’m so grateful to have found such a great friend in you.” Additionally, she celebrates her friendships with fellow staffers, including Vale, whose companionship has made her experience memorable. “From our post-meeting walks to Medici catch-up sessions, those moments are ones I’ll hold on to forever,” she affirms.

For Goel, the journey has come full circle. The rigorous editing and approval processes have prepared her for the task of scrutinizing her own writing. “No amount of copy-approving nights (‘redding’ and ‘purpling,’ only a reference my fellow p-staff will understand) or scheduling for Facebook, Twitter (yes, X) and Instagram could have prepared me for this moment,” she writes, acknowledging the complexity and responsibility that comes with publishing her work.

Goel admits that she delayed writing this farewell column because doing so signifies the end of an era. “Thank you, Daily Texan, for being with me right from the start. You’ve given me some of the most meaningful years of my professional life and introduced me to some lifelong friends,” she concludes, reflecting not only on her experiences but also on the lasting impact of the publication on her life. “And long after I’ve left the Basement, I know a part of me will always be tied to it, in every caption and deadline.”

In a world where the media landscape continually evolves, Rainna Goel’s journey at The Daily Texan serves as a testament to the power of commitment, collaboration, and community. As she prepares to step beyond the walls of the newsroom, her story reminds us of the significance of nurturing relationships and embracing the challenges that shape our professional journeys.
