Is Indiana's New Chatbot the Key to Unlocking Your Medical Bills? Discover What You're Missing!

In a significant step towards enhancing healthcare transparency in Indiana, Governor Mike Braun announced the launch of the Indiana All Payer Claims Database (APCD) public-facing chatbot on Friday. This innovative tool is the first of its kind among All Payer Claims Databases nationwide and aims to make health price and utilization data more accessible to residents, fostering informed decision-making. The initiative aligns with Gov. Braun’s healthcare agenda, which emphasizes patient-centered decision-making and increased competition to help reduce healthcare costs for Hoosiers.

“Hoosiers deserve clear, accessible information about the price and quality of healthcare services. This new chatbot makes it easier for patients and families to get the data they need, and it is another step toward greater transparency, stronger competition, and lower healthcare costs in Indiana,” said Governor Mike Braun.

The Indiana APCD is a comprehensive statewide database that collects healthcare claims information, cash prices, and quality data from various sources, including health insurers. Currently, there are 26 states, including Indiana, that either have an All Payer Claims Database established or are in development. For more information, residents can visit the Indiana APCD website at in.gov/idoi/apcd.

The newly launched chatbot aims to enhance the user experience by offering several key advantages:

  • It provides interactive and guided responses, making it user-friendly.
  • The chatbot pulls relevant information from multiple state websites, streamlining the search process.
  • Serving as a centralized resource, it offers quick access to health price and utilization information.
  • Available 24/7, the chatbot reduces response times and improves accessibility for researchers, policymakers, healthcare providers, and residents alike.

“By helping Hoosiers find clear, accurate information from the APCD, we empower individuals, families, and communities to make better healthcare decisions. The chatbot shows our commitment to transparency, ease of use, and better health across Indiana,” stated Jonathan Handsborough, Executive Director of the Indiana APCD Division.

Using the chatbot is straightforward. Users can access it directly from the Indiana APCD homepage by clicking the Indiana APCD Chatbot link at the top of the page or by selecting the chat icon located in the bottom right corner of the screen. From there, users can type their questions related to the Indiana APCD and receive guided, interactive responses.

The development of the chatbot was a collaborative effort between the Indiana Department of Insurance and OnPoint Health Data. The APCD Division worked closely with OnPoint through an iterative development process, ensuring the resulting tool is accurate, user-friendly, and accessible to those seeking healthcare information.

This innovative approach not only represents a leap in healthcare information accessibility but also reflects a growing trend across the United States where states are increasingly recognizing the need for transparency in healthcare pricing. With healthcare costs rising, tools like the Indiana APCD chatbot are essential for empowering consumers to make informed choices in their healthcare journey.
