Class 5A Division 1 Girls
Spring Branch Smithson Valley 1, Prosper Walnut Grove 0, OT
In an intense showdown, the Spring Branch Smithson Valley Lady Rangers edged out Prosper Walnut Grove with a gripping 1-0 victory in overtime. The Wildcats faced a significant challenge, playing the final 24 minutes of regulation down a player due to a red card. Despite their valiant efforts, the game remained scoreless entering overtime.
In the 84th minute, Alondra Sanchez broke the deadlock, scoring the decisive goal to secure Smithson Valley's first-ever title game victory. After previously reaching the semifinals last year but losing to the eventual champions, College Station A&M Consolidated, this win marked a significant milestone for the Lady Rangers, who finished their season undefeated at 29-0. This accomplishment highlights a growing trend in high school soccer, as this year's championship saw its third consecutive undefeated champion, following A&M Consolidated’s 25-0-1 record in 2025 and Frisco Wakeland’s 24-0-2 season in 2024.
Throughout the game, tensions ran high, illustrated by four yellow cards within the opening 16 minutes. The Wildcats were further hindered when a second yellow card forced Averi Scruggs off the field in the 56th minute, followed by an injury to Paisley Bowling that left Walnut Grove short-handed in defense.
Despite their efforts, Smithson Valley maintained pressure, with opportunities including a free kick that struck the crossbar just moments before Sanchez’s goal. Sanchez, who has now scored 18 goals this season, was named the finals MVP for her outstanding performance in the overtime period.
Walnut Grove, only in its third season, made commendable strides this year, reaching the finals after a long postseason run.
Class 5A Division 1 Boys
Prosper Walnut Grove 2, College Station 0
The boys' championship saw Prosper Walnut Grove claim victory over College Station, securing their second state title in just three years of existence. The Wildcats finished the season unbeaten at 31-0, extending their impressive streak to 58 games without a loss.
Once again, senior Mason Kutch proved to be a key player, earning his second consecutive finals MVP title. He contributed significantly with four shots on goal and scored the team’s second goal in the 42nd minute. Kutch’s leadership and skill have become synonymous with the Wildcats’ success, as he previously led the team to a thrilling win against San Antonio Southwest last year.
In this championship match, Walnut Grove dominated from the outset, outscoring College Station 8-0 in total shots. Kutch was instrumental in both of their goals, including a free kick that led to the opening score by Isaac Marah. Following that, Kutch himself found the net early in the second half, showcasing the Wildcats' offensive prowess.
The Cougars, who finished their season at 16-8-4, made it to the finals for the first time in their program’s history but struggled against the relentless Wildcats.

Montgomery Lake Creek 3, Grapevine 2
In a thrilling Class 5A Division 2 girls' match, Montgomery Lake Creek triumphed over Grapevine with a score of 3-2. Grapevine rallied late, thanks to a stellar performance from Maddison Patton, whose two goals helped equalize the score with just minutes left. However, Harper Montgomery scored the game-winning goal for Lake Creek just two minutes later, sealing the victory.
Despite Grapevine's experience in postseason play, the team fell short, marking their fourth loss in title games. This match highlighted both teams' resilience and determination, with Lake Creek finishing the season with a commendable 18-6-2 record.
Class 5A Division 2 Boys
San Antonio Pieper 1, Frisco Wakeland 0
The final match of the day saw San Antonio Pieper clinch a dramatic 1-0 victory over Frisco Wakeland. With under eight minutes remaining, Pieper secured the win through a goal scored by Jack Blische. The game was notably challenging due to rainy conditions, but Nolan Masker, the MVP goalkeeper for Pieper, delivered an exceptional performance, recording ten saves and denying Wakeland any chance of equalizing.
This victory marked Pieper's first appearance in the finals, capping a successful season with a record of 21-2-5. In contrast, Wakeland, seeking its sixth state title, completed its season with a strong 26-2-1 record, having only suffered one loss since early January.
