Laredo's Mayor Unveils SHOCKING Changes for "Move With the Mayor" – Will You Miss Out?

In an effort to encourage physical activity and community engagement, Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino is set to lead the annual "Move With the Mayor" initiative in Laredo, Texas. The event, which aims to promote cardiovascular health, will kick off next week, inviting residents to participate in a series of fitness walks across the city.
The first event will take place on Tuesday, April 14, 2024, from 9-10 a.m. at the food court of Mall del Norte, located at 5300 San Dario Ave. This year's initiative will feature fitness walks in each city district, forming part of the "Neighborhood Challenge," designed to inspire residents to stay active and track their fitness progress.
Each Tuesday from April 14 to June 2, the program will host walking clubs at different locations throughout Laredo. The schedule includes:
- April 21, 9-10 a.m., Chacon Bat Park, 1104 S. Meadow
- April 28, 9-10 a.m., Jovita Idar Park, 5911 Thomas Ave.
- May 5, 9-10 a.m., North Central Park, 10202 International Ave.
- May 12, 9-10 a.m., Independence Hills Park, N. Merida Drive
- May 19, 9-10 a.m., Haynes Recreation Center, 2101 Clark Crossing
- May 26, 9-10 a.m., St. Peter’s Plaza, 1814 Victoria St.
- June 2, 9-10 a.m., Mall del Norte food court, 5300 San Dario Ave.
The "Neighborhood Challenge" will culminate with a Health Fair Block Party on June 5 at 9 a.m. at the Laredo Public Health Department, located at 2600 Cedar Ave. This exciting conclusion promises to bring the community together, featuring the Laredo Public Health Department mobile unit offering free blood pressure and glucose checks—note that fasting is required for glucose testing.
To participate effectively, residents are encouraged to download the Strava mobile app, create a free account, and join their district’s Strava club. This will allow them to track their physical activity and compete against other districts. Top performers will be recognized by Mayor Trevino during a subsequent city council meeting, adding a competitive yet community-driven aspect to the initiative.
Originally launched in 2014 by a mayor in Indianapolis, the "Move With the Mayor" initiative has expanded into a nationwide effort aimed at promoting physical activity among residents. By participating in this program, Laredo residents not only enhance their cardiovascular health but also foster a stronger sense of community.
As Mayor Trevino calls upon residents to lace up their shoes and join him, the "Move With the Mayor" initiative serves as both a health movement and a celebration of community spirit in Laredo. It emphasizes the importance of staying active while encouraging local residents to connect with one another in a meaningful way.
