You Won't Believe What Mikie Sherrill Just Did as the 57th Leader – This Could Change Everything!

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill is set to deliver the keynote address at the Regional Plan Association's (RPA) annual Assembly, a key event in the urban planning community, on May 1 at Pier 60. Tom Wright, President and CEO of RPA, expressed excitement about Sherrill's participation, stating, “Mikie Sherrill is a long-time friend of RPA, and we’re thrilled that she’s joining us for our biggest event of the year. From her support of the Gateway Program to her laser-focus on affordability, Mikie Sherrill is a shining example of an elected official who delivers on her promises. We have much to learn from her keynote speech.”

The Assembly will also feature a lineup of prominent speakers, including Edward L. Glaeser, the Fred and Eleanor Glimp Professor of Economics at Harvard University, and Jamie Rubin, RPA’s recently elected Board Chair and CIO of Aligned Climate Capital. Another highlight will be the presentation of the John E. Zuccotti Award to Kathryn Garcia, Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), recognizing her contributions to infrastructure and urban development.

Jamie Rubin praised Sherrill's commitment to public service, saying, “It’s an honor to share the stage with Governor Sherrill at this year’s Assembly. Mikie is a committed, long-standing public servant, and her tenure as governor is already shaping New Jersey for the better.”

Before stepping into the role of governor, Sherrill served New Jersey in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she focused on critical issues such as affordability for her constituents and securing funding for essential infrastructure projects like NJ TRANSIT and the Gateway Program. Her career also includes a distinguished service as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Navy and as the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, experiences that have shaped her perspective on public service and infrastructure challenges.

The RPA Assembly is not just a celebration of accomplishments but also a platform for discussing pressing urban issues. With a focus on infrastructure, affordability, and sustainable urban planning, the event aims to inspire dialogue among policymakers, industry leaders, and community advocates.

As urban centers continue to face challenges ranging from housing affordability to transportation infrastructure, the insights shared by leaders like Sherrill and Glaeser will be critical in shaping future policies.
