In honor of her son, Hughes has founded the Dominiq Ponder 722 Foundation, which aims to promote scholarships for student athletes who exemplify resilience and character. According to the foundation’s GoFundMe page, funds raised will also support community awareness initiatives around responsible decision-making and provide assistance to children's hospitals.

During Ponder’s funeral, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders delivered an emotional eulogy, highlighting Ponder's potential and the impact he had during his time with the team.
