You Won't Believe What Happened at Vermont's First Soccer Bar—This Opening Will Change Everything!

As soccer continues to gain popularity in Vermont, a new establishment has emerged to cater to the growing fanbase. On March 28, the Slide In Pub celebrated its soft opening at 3762 Shelburne Road, marking what owner Joseph Fox describes as “the first-ever soccer bar in Vermont.”

Fox, who has a background in the food and beverage industry spanning over 16 years, recognized a gap in the market. His connection to the sport runs deep; he's friends with Jacob Labovitz, a player for the Vermont Green and owner of the Soccer Post, located right next door at Tenneybrook Square. The venue previously housed La Villa Bistro & Pizzeria but had been vacant since 2021.

“Having the soccer store there, and the World Cup coming to America, and just how big soccer has really become in Vermont,” Fox stated, “this is something that Shelburne and Burlington were needing.” His sentiments reflect a broader trend as the interest in soccer surges, particularly with the upcoming 2026 World Cup, which will see matches played in the U.S.

The menu at the Slide In Pub features a variety of sliders — including options like smashed beef, Buffalo chicken, and a unique offering called the Papou, which includes lamb, greens, harissa, pickled onions, and tzatziki. Each slider can be customized into a salad or rice bowl, enhancing the appeal for diverse dietary preferences. Complementing the sliders are wings, loaded tots, and garlic-Parmesan fries, all made with fresh, in-house ingredients.

While the pub’s liquor license is still pending, Fox anticipates it will be finalized soon. Once operational, the Slide In aims to serve an array of beverages, including 14 varieties of canned cocktails, house wine, five local and domestic draft beers, and 10 bottled and canned beer options.

The venue isn’t just about soccer; it also caters to a wide range of sports fans. With 10 TVs displaying everything from the English Premier League to the Italian league and even leagues as niche as those in Finland, there’s something for every sports enthusiast. On weekends, the pub opens early at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast during the early matches, making it a go-to spot for dedicated fans.

In addition to soccer, the Slide In will broadcast other major sporting events, including Boston Red Sox games and NBA and NHL matchups. The establishment's atmosphere is designed for both relaxation and entertainment, featuring lounge seating, a dartboard, board games, and a PlayStation 5, ensuring visitors have plenty of options to enjoy their time.

Fox's vision for the Slide In Pub is not just to provide a place for fans to watch their favorite teams but also to create a community space where the excitement of soccer and sports can thrive. As the sport continues to evolve in Vermont, the Slide In stands poised to become a hub for fans eager to connect over their shared passion.
