FRANKLIN, Tenn. - The Northern Illinois University (NIU) men's golf team faced one of the most competitive fields in collegiate golf this past weekend at the Mason Rudolph Championship, hosted at the prestigious Vanderbilt Legends Club. The Huskies finished 13th in the tournament, posting a 54-hole team score of 886, which placed them two strokes ahead of Western Kentucky and five strokes behind 12th-place Princeton.
The tournament was dominated by the top-ranked Auburn Tigers, who secured victory with a remarkable 17-shot margin over #11 Vanderbilt. The final standings saw #12 Tennessee, #13 Ole Miss, and Mississippi State rounding out the top five, while Charlotte, ranked #19, finished in sixth place.
Sophomore Conner McCall from Vandalia, Illinois, emerged as NIU's top performer for the second time this spring, tying for 44th overall with a score of eight-over par at 221. His standout performance included an even par 71 in the opening round on Friday and a strong finish on Sunday, where he recorded the Huskies' lowest round of the tournament. McCall's impressive two-under par 69 featured four birdies and no bogeys in the last ten holes, showcasing his resilience and skill on the course.
NIU's best team score came on Friday, when they finished with a seven-over par 291. In that round, Beau Petersen from Gretna, Nebraska, and Corentin Guilloux from Longages, France, both contributed significantly with one-over par rounds of 72. Petersen notably recorded five birdies, while Guilloux made a strong finish with birdies on both the 17th and 18th holes.
