Ex-Soccer Coach from Ohio Charged with 9 Shocking Counts of Sexual Battery—What Happened?

WEST SALEM, Ohio (WOIO) - A former soccer coach for the Northwestern Local School District, Timothy Boggs, 51, was arrested on Monday facing nine criminal counts of sexual battery involving a minor. The indictment specifies that the alleged incidents occurred between October 1, 2024, and April 30, 2025.
Boggs, who served as the girls’ soccer coach at Northwestern Local Schools for the past three seasons from 2023 to 2025, resigned from his position on February 25, 2026. His last interaction with the team reportedly took place in November 2025. According to the district’s Superintendent, Julie McCumber, the allegations against Boggs stem from incidents occurring outside his role as a scholastic coach and were not directly connected to his employment with the district.
The indictment alleges that Boggs engaged in sexual activity with the victim, who was identified as a minor under his care as a coach. The legal documents state that the allegations involve Boggs, in a position of temporary or occasional control over the minor, facilitating sexual conduct. This raises serious concerns about the vulnerability of young athletes in such positions of authority.
In light of the allegations, the court has set Boggs's bond at $100,000. He has been ordered not to have contact with the victim and is prohibited from coaching or instructing any children under the age of 18. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney David Haverfield noted that Boggs had been a youth coach and private instructor for the victim. He used this relationship to facilitate a sexual relationship, posing a significant risk to other students in the community.
“In response to learning of the allegation, Northwestern complied with all applicable reporting requirements under Ohio law. District administration also contacted the families of former players as part of our commitment to due diligence and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students. Maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students remains our highest priority and we will continue to act with vigilance in upholding that responsibility,” McCumber stated in a release.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has also noted an "ICE detainer" under Boggs’s charges. This detainer is a request from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that allows law enforcement to hold an individual for up to 48 hours beyond their typical release time, enabling the Department of Homeland Security to assume custody in accordance with federal immigration law.
Boggs is scheduled to return to court on April 22 for a pretrial hearing, as the legal proceedings continue to unfold in this serious case.
