K-State Soccer Coach Suspended: What Shocking Racial Slur Cost Her Career? Find Out Now!

Kansas State University has suspended their women’s soccer head coach, Colleen Corbin, for two weeks due to her use of a racial slur during a discussion with players. Although Corbin reportedly used the term while objecting to its use in pregame music prior to an exhibition match against Arkansas on March 7, the incident has sparked significant controversy and concern within the university community.

Sources familiar with the situation revealed that Corbin had instructed players to avoid playing certain pregame music that included explicit lyrics, specifically asking them to refrain from using the N-word. However, in the course of this conversation, she allegedly repeated the slur, which led to player complaints to the university administration.

The situation escalated when Corbin repeated the term during a staff meeting while discussing the music issue. This prompted Maddie Dobyns, the assistant coach and goalkeepers coach who was hired just this past offseason, to resign from her position, expressing discomfort with the manner in which Corbin handled the situation.

On March 23, after a meeting with Gene Taylor, the athletics director, Corbin was officially suspended from coaching duties. In a statement to The Mercury, the university explained, “Coach Colleen Corbin was suspended for two weeks following offensive lyrics played during warm-ups before a spring match. While addressing the issue, the coach inappropriately repeated the offensive lyrics. The incident was reported to the University’s Civil Rights and Title IX office, and K-State Athletics took action, issuing a suspension. Athletics takes these matters seriously and expects coaches and players to respect others.”

As of now, there is no information on whether this suspension is with or without pay, as Taylor did not disclose that detail. Corbin is entering her second season as the head coach of the K-State Wildcats women’s soccer team, following what many considered a successful 2025 campaign. Under her leadership, the Wildcats achieved their first winning season in program history with a record of 7-6-5 and set various records within the Big 12 standings, including a total of 10 points.

During the 2025 season, K-State set a remarkable 49 school records, which include wins in a season (7), draws in a season (5), and achieving a winning percentage of .528. They also tied the school record for non-conference wins in a season with 5 (previously set in 2017 and 2021), and achieved a home win record of 4 in a season, while also tying the record for road wins with 3, marking their first .500 or better record in road matches (3-3-4).

The Wildcats are currently navigating through their spring season and are set to face Creighton in an exhibition match in Omaha on April 12. Given the circumstances surrounding Corbin’s suspension, it remains to be seen how the team will fare both on and off the field as they deal with the aftereffects of this incident.
