You Won't Believe the Secret Ingredient in The Juice House's Smoothies That’s Taking Downtown Amesbury by Storm!

In the heart of downtown Amesbury, Market Square Bakehouse has long been a cherished community hub, beloved for its warm atmosphere and delectable offerings of coffee and baked goods. Recently, the team behind this staple has expanded its culinary repertoire with the launch of The Juice House, a vibrant new spot that caters to the growing demand for healthy, fresh food options in the area.
Co-owner Kate Dewez conceived the idea for The Juice House after frequently traveling to nearby Newburyport and Portsmouth for smoothies and juices. “We wanted to be able to offer that healthy niche that Amesbury was missing. We really felt like it was just a gap in the market,” she explains. Driven by a passion for wholesome food, Dewez, along with her husband Theo and fellow co-owner Caroline Healey, opened The Juice House in August 2023, just two years after acquiring the Bakehouse.
Located on Lower Water Street, The Juice House contrasts with the cozy, inviting atmosphere of its predecessor. The design focuses on a bright and energetic aesthetic, featuring high ceilings, natural wooden furniture, and geometric patterns that create a refreshing ambiance. “When you walk in, you feel like you’ve entered a calm, serene, beautiful, clean environment,” Dewez describes. This inviting atmosphere is complemented by a menu designed to invigorate the health-conscious crowd.
The Juice House menu features a variety of small-batch, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, açai bowls, and nutritious snacks. The smoothie selection includes options like the chocolatey, peanut buttery PB Powow and the nutrient-rich Green House, which combines apple, spirulina, kale, spinach, and mango. Cold-pressed juices such as the vibrant Downtown Beets—a blend of beet, orange, carrot, apple, and ginger—and the refreshing Marco Sunset, made with orange, carrot, celery, lemon, and turmeric, add to the offerings. Dewez emphasizes that each item is crafted to not only be delicious but also nutritious, stating, “We make really delicious food that is super healthy, nutritious, and wholesome.”
Customization is a key feature of The Juice House, allowing patrons to personalize their drinks with various add-ins like cacao nibs and turmeric powder. This attention to detail sets it apart from typical chain juiceries, with a more thoughtful and intentional approach to menu design. Dewez herself is a devoted customer, regularly ordering the Garden Party Smoothie with hemp protein, which she describes as filling and energizing.
As warmer months approach, The Juice House plans to expand its offerings further by introducing new menu items and hosting pop-up events in its outdoor space. These events are designed to foster community engagement, featuring art showcases, collaborations with local businesses, and even yoga classes. Dewez notes, “Everything we do, we’re trying to make sure aligns with the health brand.” Recently, the business also introduced online and mobile ordering for both The Juice House and Market Square Bakehouse, enhancing convenience for customers.
“It’s nonnegotiable in today’s world,” Dewez asserts regarding the importance of adapting to customer needs. Almost a year after its opening, The Juice House has successfully created the kind of health-focused destination that Dewez had envisioned for Amesbury. With its commitment to nutritious offerings and a welcoming environment, local residents now no longer have to venture further afield for healthy snacks, juices, and smoothies.
