Unlock Stunning Photos with Your Phone: Discover the Shocking Secrets at White Rock Library!

In an innovative effort to engage the community, the Los Alamos Public Library is launching a new monthly series called Discover!. Kicking off the series is a Smartphone Photography 101 workshop, set to take place on Thursday, February 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the White Rock Branch Library multipurpose room.
The workshop will be led by Leslie Bucklin, the Los Alamos County Assistant Public Information Officer. She emphasizes the convenience of modern technology, stating, “The best camera you have is always the one with you. For most people, that is their smartphone.” This sentiment resonates as smartphones have democratized photography, allowing anyone with a device to capture high-quality images.
Participants can expect to learn essential techniques for transforming everyday snapshots into frame-worthy photographs. The workshop will delve into how to utilize smartphone cameras effectively, exploring features that can significantly enhance photo quality. This interactive experience is designed for both beginners and those at an intermediate skill level.
The workshop is free and open to adults and teens, with all smartphone models welcome. However, space is limited to just 15 participants, making advance registration essential. Interested individuals can either call the White Rock Branch Library at 505-662-8265 or visit the library’s event calendar online at losalamoslibrary.org.
The Discover! series aims to offer hands-on introductions to a variety of topics that foster community engagement. Future sessions will cover a range of interests, including Dungeons & Dragons, AI prompting, crafts, card games, and repair clinics. Eva Jacobson, a senior librarian, expressed the motivation behind the initiative: “We wanted to create something engaging and interactive, allowing adult library users to discover and explore new skills and topics together.”
As many library patrons seek more participatory programs, the Discover! series seeks to address this demand while strengthening community ties. This initiative reflects a broader trend in libraries across the country, as they evolve into versatile community hubs that offer not just books, but also skills, experiences, and personal development opportunities.
For those looking to enhance their photography skills or simply curious about the art of smartphone photography, this workshop promises to be an enriching experience. Whether you're hoping to capture breathtaking landscapes or candid moments, this session may help you unlock the full potential of your smartphone camera.
