Cavaliers' G League Shock: Why This 2-Time All-Star's Return Could Change Everything!

Victor Oladipo, a former NBA All-Star, is embarking on a new chapter in his basketball career as he joins the Cleveland Cavaliers' G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge. This move comes as the Cavaliers continue their impressive run in the 2025-2026 season, maintaining a solid spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

On Friday morning, the Cleveland Charge announced a trade with the Wisconsin Herd, which is affiliated with the Milwaukee Bucks. The trade sent the returning player rights to Jacob Gilyard and Drake Jeffries, along with a second-round pick in the 2026 NBA G League Draft and a pick in the 2026 NBA G League International Draft to Wisconsin, in exchange for Oladipo. This marks a significant transition for Oladipo, who has been striving for an NBA comeback after facing multiple injuries over the last few seasons.

At 33 years old, Oladipo is hoping to reignite his career with the Charge, having last appeared in the NBA with the Miami Heat during the 2022-2023 season. His performance then included 42 games with averages of 10.7 points, 3.5 assists, and shooting 39 percent from the field. This trade represents his second G League stint in less than a year, as he previously played with the Herd, starting in eight out of the 15 games he participated in.

The Cavaliers are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 35-21, riding a six-game winning streak, which is the highest in the league at this moment. They are looking ahead to make a significant playoff push in 2026. Recently, the team made headlines by trading away young guard Darius Garland to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for former MVP James Harden, pairing him with star Donovan Mitchell. This move indicates Cleveland's intent to bolster their roster for a deep playoff run.

Oladipo's journey has been marred by injuries, and he hasn't played more than 50 games in a season since the 2017-2018 year when he made the All-Star team as a member of the Indiana Pacers. Since then, he has played for several teams, including the Orlando Magic, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Houston Rockets, and has made five playoff appearances throughout his career.

Last fall, Oladipo was preparing for a season with the Guangzhou Loong Lions in China. However, after showcasing his skills in the preseason, he attracted attention from NBA teams, leading to his signing with the Herd. During his time there, he averaged 13.5 points, 3.8 assists, and 4.6 rebounds while shooting 38 percent from the field.

The Charge's next game is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026, against the Westchester Knicks in White Plains, New York. If all goes according to plan, Oladipo could make his debut for the Charge then. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are gearing up to face the Charlotte Hornets, who have won eight out of their last ten games, presenting another challenge as the Cavs aim to extend their winning streak.

As Oladipo embarks on this new journey with the Charge, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if he can recapture the form that once made him one of the league's brightest stars. For the Cavaliers, adding a seasoned veteran like Oladipo could pay dividends as they aim for playoff success.
